Aren't most people leasing their iPhones now? Meaning they have to turn them in the next time they want a new phone? Meaning there are less and less people who actually OWN an iPhone that they can actually sell?
I buy them outright. No ties to carrier. Month to month.

We're definitely not normal:D
And that is a good thing.

How come we never see deals with iphones like the buy one get one 50% off that T Mobile has now for androids?

Samsung Galaxy S6
Samsung Galaxy Note5
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+
LG G4™
LG V10™

Would be great to have something like that for an iphone 6S but no luck:(

Surely less people selling their old phones will increase the resale value?

edit: I think people will be careful about buying them though - you wouldn't want to buy a "brick able" one. If there is assurance that the phone has not been modified in anyway, that phone should be worth more - as long as people are not put off buying them!

I suspect this error 53 that bricks iphones will kill sales of used iphones. Who wants to risk buying a iPhone that is a time bomb that will brick when updating iOS?
Error 53 was around way before that article came out. I had a few Iphones get it last year and resale values are still the same.

I don't buy phones to resell them, but I fail to see how an error caused by third-party parts would affect the value. Market saturation, yes. Parts? Not so much.

upgrade program killed the resale value.
Why would the upgrade program kill resale value of used phones? Not everyone uses it and everyone who does sign up to it no longer has a used iphone to sell when they upgrade.

There will always be a used market because some people can't afford the latest model when it comes out so they buy an older model for less.

Not necessarily, a lot of those people wouldn't have been buying used phones otherwise, and the trade ins are mostly sold overseas, or refurbished and used for warranty replacements, so it would have little effect on the prices and if anything slightly increase them as less people are selling their old phone.

There will always be a used market because some people can't afford the latest model when it comes out so they buy an older model for less.

1) Nobody claimed that there will not be a second hand market. The prediction was that PRICES will get down.
2) People who can´t afford the latest model buy ONCE a used one - and stay with it. This is called "MARKET SATURATION" of the second hand market. As is more and more for NEW Smartphones (of all manufacturers) .

These are logical reasons for falling prices in the future.
The error53 problem will be well-known soon - so the risk to stay with a bricked phone will be priced-in for used phones. Means: LESS $ as before.

PLUS: Smartphones have already all you need since years. It is and will be less and less ways to convoke intelligent people to buy a new phone for about 800-1000 USD without any evident and significant advantage in comparison to the latest or even before-latest generation.

Att is doing a buy one get one free right now. At launch TMO was doing free data upgrades for people who were upgrading from a previous iPhone. So, they have them, just not as prevalent. iPhone never needed the sales push I guess.

The reason you don't see deals on iPhones like you do with Androids is b/c Apple doesn't cut the price they sell the phones to the carriers for, whereas the Android manufacturers do. Android is an open OS and so there is more competition in the Android market, which leads to manufacturers cutting prices to the carriers to sell inventory.

Apple will cut the price they sell the iPhones to the carriers for during holiday periods sometimes - like the $100 off Verizon iPhones - and in the summer but not to the degree that Android manufacturers do. It is b/c Apple has a monopoly on the iPhone. No manufacturer including Google has a monopoly on Android phones.

Well said guys.
Apple is not really into slicing prices.
I remember when the iphone 6S came out Tmobile had the cheapest deal available for around $50-100 less if I'm not mistaken?
But iphone deals dont really come often and not for much of a discount as half price as androids.

What you may not see as a reason to upgrade others will. I predict the resale of the 6s will go down the second week in September. You may be right with the hypothesis.

Prices still seem to be quite high when I check my local Craigslist (which I've given up on) and Swappa (my new love). :D
