"Iphone V1 will be in demand in countries with no 3g as well as countries that have limited 3g(most of them)."

Ummm the 3g iphone also works on 2g, so no

If I wasn't covered by 3G, I wouldn't want to pay extra per month for a service I didn't get. I'm not even sure it comes with texts.

My friend just got $1000 for her unlocked iPhone on Ebay. I am just shocked beyond words.

ive been checking the iphones for a few weeks now on ebay and the highest i saw sell was about 550. Why would someone bid that high when there are lots of lower bids available.

That dude's friend got scammed.
Nobody is really buying an iPhone for $1000. It probably got shipped to Nigeria as a "gift" for someone's son or daughter who is attending university there...

I recently sold my 1st gen iphone in anticipation of next month's 3g release. Now, of course, I am having second thoughts.

It sounds like apple and AT&T are really cracking down on sim unlockers with the in-store activation for 3G. Does anyone in the hacking community know what type of effect this in-store ATT activation will have on sim-unlocking? I expect hackers to have a bit of difficulty getting around this new step. So, if 3G proves unhackable, will the demand for potentially unlockable 1st gen iphones rise??? Unlocked iphones are already selling for ridiculously high, my prediction is that these prices will continue to rise as the last unlockable iphone becomes scarcely available.

So, what are your thoughts??

Highly unlikely. A meteor impact might be more likely. When you compare the number of ppl it takes to drive a price and then compare that number to how many understand or care to "unlock" ...no way. Most ppl will simply break it down to the old slower iphone and the newer faster one.

Coming from Windows Mobile and EVDO, I can't possibly understand why anyone other than the small number of ppl that jailbrake and unlock would want to keep the old model.

wow i can't believe I sold mine for $190... but at least it was local so I didn't have to pay shipping. And to all you fools who think your 1st gen iphones are somehow better due to the plastic backing on the 3g, you are wrong.

Though w/ regard to my prediction on the raising price, I still stand strong. I was just catching up on another iphone thread and read that even if someone manages to unlock the iphone so it can be used w/ another carrier (and pay the fee to break their AT&T contract) they won't be able to use the phone in the US. Apparently, T-Mobile is the only other US carrier that uses 3G and their system is different than AT&T so it wouldn't work. So please, don't make the same mistake I did... save your iphone until it is the last one left.

the price will not rise astronomically, you are living in a dream world if you believe that, the prices should remain constant and demand will be steady at least at the beginning for those who don't want the 3G service and don't mind the slower EDGE service on t-mobile. but that is because it will be cheaper so they don't want to pay for 3G that they aren't going to use. if the price of an iPhone V1 rises then it will no longer be a cheaper alternative, and it would be cheaper just to go with a iPhone 3G even if you don't use the 3G service. so the price will be put in check. as for whether or not it will unlocked/jailbroken? it is just a matter of time, it is basically the same phone with a few more radios soldered onto the board.

But even if the 3G comes to be a cheaper option, if you wanted to stay w/ T-Mobile, you still wouldn't be able to use 3G w/ your new iphone. The phone is made for AT&T's network exclusively, and unfortunately for those on other networks, it just isn't compatable!

you can hack the new 2.0 firmware all you want but in the end there will be no way to get around the exclusive 3G compatability.

you are missing the point, if it is cheaper to go 3G after taking all cost into account, because of after marketing pricing on a iPhone V1, then who is going to buy it? the arguments for continuing to use a V1 has been because it is cheaper for them to do so, because they don't care about 3G and don't want to pay for something they aren't going to use, by the same token i'm sure those people don't want to pay more money and get less of a phone in return

also, the phone still works on a t-mobile network, just no 3G, all they did was add a 3G radio to this thing, it is still a quad band GSM phone.

# UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
# GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

I sold my two 8GB 1st gen iPhones, unlocked w/2.0 for $850. ($450 & $400). Paid for the new 3G's we bought... sweet... I'd say they gained some value after Pwnage 2.0 was released.
