Anybody else prefer the 8?

I like the XS as a product however I prefer my old IPhone 8

Reasons why:

*The 4.7” screen easier to hold and no notch
*Home Button was easier than gestures and finger print scanner better than Face ID
*The LCD is a bit nicer on the eye than the top bright OLED

Not saying the XS is bad and nor would I switch back no point really if next year Apple will likely keep these bigger phones and designs. Given the cheap model is larger than the XS these phones will only keep getting bigger. The 4” and 4.7” phones were best 3.5” was too small I wasn’t a fan of the SE given it was an old design but many prefer smaller screens. Apple seems to have abaondoned that same with IPad mini.

I certainly prefer the 8+. I had an 8, took a long look at everything offered this year, and upgraded to an 8+. Zero interest in the notch, OLED, Face ID, and/or a big ole 720p screen. To those that are cool with those things: mazel tov. I’m happy for you. I’m keeping this phone till it dies.

Yes, i prefer the 8 to the XS. Don’t get me wrong, the XS is a beautiful phone. But the 8 has everything i need and i like the size better. I am not a big fan of bezelless phones and i still like having a home button.
The XS is a great phone but overkill for my needs. The 8 is the perfect iPhone for me.

I just returned my iphone XS and purchased an iphone 8. I can't believe how awful the face id business is. It's impossible to unlock when your face is all puffy in the morning, and having the home button is just so much more functional. I may upgrade the iphone 8 when they create a home button built into the screen, but until that day, you will only be able to tear the iphone 8 out of my cold, dead hands.

Bonus in addition to the (in my oppinion) better user experience is the $400 I'm saving!

Yeah everyone has things they like. Me personally coming from a 7+ I love my Xs. The Face ID works flawlessly I don’t have to worry about not being able to unlock if my hands are wet. The gestures I really love. No more clicking. Everything just feels smoother. Both were great phones though.

I know different strokes for different folks and all that, but this is just crazy talk to me. The XS is a better phone than the 8 in just about every way imaginable. The issues you listed won’t actually be issues once you get used to the new phone. Trust me on this...

If the current trends continue (current impressions of Xs Max continuing to be good) I will have a few years upcoming to compare the Max and the 8 Plus. I find them to both be really impressive devices but the more time I spend with Max the more I like it.

I preferred the iPhone 8 but mainly due the fact it was £400 cheaper lol. I’m not stupid enough to pay a grand for a phone that provides and identical experience just because it looks a bit different. Horses for courses.
It’s true that the experience doesn’t differ that much once they are all on the same software.

I'm looking at prices of new models in my country and I'm seriously considering upgrading from 5S to 8/8 Plus. It's 1/3 of the price of Xs and only thing that I'll miss is better camera.

Good thing there's different iPhones for different folks. They should release a 4 inch iPhone for those who prefer that and call it a day.

Coming from an iPhone 8 to the XS I'm more than happy with :

- The larger screen
- The gestures that I acustomed to straight away
- The better camera
- Face ID that works like a charm

My wife still has an 8 and I think it's a great phone. Both the XS and 8 are amazing phones that will please most.

In the end it boils down to the needs and preferences of each person.

They did already. It was called the iPhone SE, which they recently discontinued after almost 3 years of being in their lineup. Obviously Apple did not find it to be that profitable of the phone or it was just a limited production phone in general. But I’m sure the four-inch iPhone form factor is not the most sought after either because of its size and where large displays have grown in popularity.

It’s worrying the iPhone 8 size device in the current new lineup is only available in the guise of the XS. That’s a very popular standard I would say but only offering it with a premium price tag is bad for the consumer. I work with a guy who was dead set on getting the XR because it was cheaper and he doesn’t like big phones. His face was a picture when I told him the XR is only slightly smaller than the 8+. I think this year the size of the XR might drive people towards the 8 but beyond that it’ll be interesting to see if Apple cater for a large chunk of their market.

Speaking of sizes, I’m curious to see if this will be the last year Apple is offering the 4.7 inch iPhone size. Now that the XR is in place, it should be interesting to see if Apple replaces the 4.7 inch iPhone with anything else, but after they introduced two new iPhone models this year, I don’t know that they will introduce another new form factor next year. The XR should do well, all things considered, I don’t think its for me.

Gotta love a good deal

They may release a smaller version of the XR, I certainly think it would be popular. I’ve always though offering a 6.1” screen as the standard which targets the mainstream buyer as being rather odd.

Not sure why but the 8/8+ always looked a bit dated to me; aesthetically it seems like a step back from the 6s and 7 (although I get that the change was all about wireless charging so it was functional).

Coming from a 6s (which I loved), I’m pleased with the XS not least because the camera is so much better and that’s really important for me.

I remember that the iPhone users were going to revolt if the made an iPhone with a screen larger than the iPhone 4. Many threatened that they would leave and go to Android.

Look at where we all are now!
I doubt they’ve got much choice these days though. It’s a bit like those that refused to buy VHS because Betamax was much better but the market ultimately chose the cheaper but inferior option. Those that want a 3” screen have virtually no choice these days and have to adapt.

Glad others agree lack of a home Button is an issue and I dislike the notch.

Seems all future iPhones will follow this trend though
