It should be interesting to see how many of the newbies are banned by the end of January.

That's always fun. I don't envy the job of the Mods sometimes. That's why I try to assist them by acting as an unofficial policeman by snitching and complaining - er, I mean reporting bad posts and users (it has nothing at all to do with being a bastard or trying to get people in trouble...) ;)

I'm interested in what computers people are buying this holiday season. Will there be a lot of G5 iMacs or Powerbooks instead?

Can't see a lot of PowerBooks, I think a lot of people will be wary to buy them in case new PowerBooks are announced at MWSF. And then there are those fools thinking a G5 PowerBook is coming out very soon... :p ;)

Nothing. I wasn't referring to the way you look but rather the pic in your profile in general :D

Ah yes, fair enough then. Well, what can I say, I'm a bastard. And proud of it.

Touché. You never know though, do you? ;)

Nope, that's very true... :)

Diatribe said:
Yeah, it's all fun and games, how it should be. :)
Exactly. And for those people who take things too seriously, get all defensive and confrontational, etc. etc., I enjoy bugging them even more since they take things so seriously and personal. I find great amusement dealing with those kinds. ;)

I have 5 switchers down my street so i'm sure i'll be getting a few calls over the holidays.

Great to hear, be sure to be as helpful as possible - and definitely recommend MacRumors to them as well!

Me too, I'm always willing to help out. Or be a bastard. You know, whichever, it's all good...

As for the whole post count issue, I could care less what my ranking is, but I guess to some people it's important. Personally I have other things going on in my life so I don't need to spend every waking hour on MR trying to get to that next ranking - can't say that's a big goal or achievement for me. Some days I'll post 10 posts, other days, none, so whatever...

And then there are some people who seem to care a bit more and even mention their "macrumors 68040" status at 3000 posts later on in this thread, as if it's something to be proud of... :p ;)
Sorry about being so slow to reply - I was stuck doing errands. Anyway, yeah you're right - ranking isn't a big deal anymore once you hit 6502 status and get an avatar. I'm actually planning on becoming a contributor anyway, so my rank won't matter - I'll be known as "macrumors demi-god" instead.

I'm always happy to see new members. We all started out that way. Mistakes happen, patience is what's needed. Post Christmas and MWSF will be quite a draw for new members. Polite correction usually works well.

Absolutely, wdlove. We're bound to get many newbies after Christmas - most of them switchers or people new to computers in general (at least that's my guess). That's one of the things we're all here for - to help ease them in making the transition to using a Mac!

Very cool. Oh, and I was just having some fun with ya I hope you realize. ;)

Have a merry Christmas wrldwzrd89.

I'm planning on putting a picture of me in the pic-thread for my MR-anniversary, so until then you can continue to speculate. (Not that you have better things to do with your time ;) :D )

You mean your avatar isn't your picture? Kay, you had me fooled... :p ;)

...but if it's newbie+stupid, then the macros are coming out in force :D
One of the newbies was trying to destroy his HD on his new PM 2.5 and was complaining about how the computer wouldn't boot off the Norton CD.

I was nice and told him an alternative method to booting off the CD to run Norton, anything to help a newbie destroy his data. ;)

That was very thoughtful and giving of you, Sun Baked - especially appropriate during this festive season!

All I want for Xmas is for wdlove to tell someone to go #$%^&* themself.

LOL - good one! Hmm, I think that would have to go down as one of the rarest, memorable moments of MacRumors history if that were ever to happen.

Definitely a good testament to wdlove though and his positive, friendly attitude - it is always welcome, and many times, much needed in certain heated discussions. :)

I realized while many people were protecting the newbie, nobody was really helping him do what he wanted.

Every now and them you'll meet somebody angling for a Darwin Award, and looking for the cliff to jump off, sometimes you have to grab the nearest camcorder and follow him to the cliff.

Welcome all new Mac users!

If you're wondering where the mouse button is, the mouse is the mouse button. Also if you have the iMac G5, you did remember to upgrade the memory right?

Merry Christmas to everyone down under who is just waking up on the big day. Merry Christmas to everyone else soon!

Actually if you post foolishly, the posts and possibly your forum account will get deleted. Specifically it says in the FAQ for the forum that one is not supposed to spam the forums to increase their post count to get status and such.

Yeah, cuz no one does that..... I would like to see that one enforced way more often. Too many people post just to post.

Apple Hobo - are you bored or something? Those are EXTREMELY funny! My favorite is the first one with the Lego characters.

Bring on the n00bs, I'm ready for 'em...

Bored? Yes I am. However, I can't claim credit for those pics. ;)
