God, and that was the main reason I was buying it. To switch it on and off again, constantly.

Ha, ha. All I can say is that I am chuffed to bits with mine. Just set up the basics for now and made sure everything is working........even took a picture of the cat! Display is absolutely excellent. No yellow tinge or dead pixels that some have complained of. Some of the games look almost 3D so all in all, I am over the moon with it. It is my first iPad so have nothing to compare it to anyway.

One tip: don't look for 'issues' or problems. Once you think you have found an 'issue', you'll never forget it.

Wow, I got nothing from those comparison tests. We're talking about like less than half a second?

Slower, heavier, thicker (in the wrong places) ..... sounds like me when I passed age 64.

Or passed age 67 for me ;)

PS: Since its now slower than the iPad 2, I will send mine back next year when the iPad 4th generation comes out.

Those tests are boo boo. Trust me, i'm no fanboy and I tell it like it is. You don't do speed tests running iPhone apps on iPads.

Lets see some iMovie Video exporting, BeatMaker 2, DJay, GTA, COD Zombies tests. Virtual Midi with 3-4 apps running in the background in sync with each other sequenced by Gnome Midi Sequencer. Audio Recording with Multitrack. Lets see some emulator tests like spectaculator, and Codea the lua emulator or iCircuit.

These youtube idiots don't know what the hell they are doing. And prove my point that most folks don't use their iPads to the fullest. I push mines like salt & pepa. Wait till my iPad gets dropped off by fedex. I'll have 1, 2, and 3 over here too and post some real test info.

When I say Power User I mean it.

It makes sense. I really wanted this iPad but I'll stick to my ipad2 till they make a new processor (a6?) for iPad.
Same things happened with iPhone. iPhone 4 had the super cool retina display but iPhone 4s is the ultimate phone. Fantastic screen and dual core CPU.
So I'm waiting for Retina iPad and quad core CPU!

Has anyone tried running the Zinio magazine app? Some pages load slowly as 12 large separate blocks with delay between each one whilst every page appears blurred for several seconds until it eventually sharpens up. Didn't happen on the iPad 2, pages appeared without delay.

It looks like they really did need a quad core.

I am sure it will all be fixed in the next ipad.

guys it IS faster, just not now at this moment, wait until the next software update comes out, the ipad 2 will start getting slower and slower just like the ipad 1 is with iOS 5 and guess what? the iPad 3 will STILL be fast while the other 2 models will be slower.

And you know this how?

Let me make this very, very easy.

BECAUSE ITS UNNOTICEABLE COMPARED TO THE SPECS IT CAN PROVIDE.

Let me make this very, very easy.
EVEN IF THE DIFFERENCE IS UNNOTICEABLE, IT SUCKS THAT A NEW PRODUCT ISN'T FASTER THAN THE ONE IT SUCCEEDS

Why? The upgrade wasn't in the processor except for the graphics cores. Plus, the iPad 2 already runs buttery smooth and is miles ahead of other tablets. One day people will understand that Apple users aren't spec and benchmark vultures. We're user experience/interface vultures. We crave a smooth UI/UE. iOS and iDevices provide that for us.

That's actually, pretty upsetting. Coming from iPad 1, and being a huge Zinio user, I was looking for big improvements here...

Slower iPad 2 when the next software upgrade comes out?

If my iPad 2 will be slower if I install the next software upgrade, perhaps - when all is considered - it will be wise NOT to upgrade? Then my iPad 2 will still be as fast as it is today? (I am perhaps just asking a question that perhaps is naive, but I have not the technical knowledge that I need to know this, and it seems to be a question of some importance.)

Can I take my un-opened new iPad that got shipped back to me to the apple store?

And trade it for a larger storage model? Or do I have to ship it back, because that is how it came?

now this sounds really interesting. give me a heads up! I definitely want to watch!! (or give me your youtube channel link so i can subscribe!!
Can't Wait!!

Of course this will get down ranked into oblivion, but if you guys really want something fast, get an asus transformer. Look at some sample CPU benchmarks between the two. It is not even a close race, the asus is overall almost 2.5 times faster then the iPad 3. And since iPhoto is such a big deal apparently, let's talk about image performance. Asus got a score of 8200 in the image sharpening test. iPad got 1400. Blur image test asus got 8700, iPad 3 got 1600. Overall the asus won in 31 unique testing categories. The iPad won in 5. Which is the faster product?

dude, the ipad 3 has 1GB of ram, while ipad 2 has 512, BIG DIFFERENCE.

Not when you have 4X the pixels to drive with only 2X the RAM. It should auctally be slower now.

agreed

I'm so sick of people complaining that it's thicker and heavier. People act like Apple added many pounds and inches. The additional weight and bulk is so minuscule that it will not even be realized unless you're holding both the new iPad and iPad 2. Even then, i doubt many would notice. These complaints come from the spec vultures who use a spec list to compare devices. OP, if the new iPad is too slow, heavy and bulky for you, go get a Kindle Fire. It's cheaper and lighter.

No kidding. Depth was increased by .03 inches. Weight was increased by .11 pounds.

If this is an issue for you, you have bigger issues.
