Yeah well when you have countries like the US where the federal minimum wage doesn't even help someone to rise above "poverty" then unions are bound to appear. And now with inflation being what it is... I'd say this or something worse would have been an expected outcome.
you seem to think I'm complaining. I am not.

Don't forget to add the costs of inflation downstream, thus eroding the wage gains by said Magic Raise. The net effect could still be lower effective wages.

Stupid economic math...bites us every time!
How is this in any way related to the core issue here? Inflation or no you still make more money when you make more money (I can't believe I actually had to type that)

Having worked at an apple store, part time, I was impressed with apple offered for Benefits and pay for the job.
not only that but the discounts.
I can see apple starting with a clean slate of offering just pay and let the unions fight for every nickel and try to get back the benefits and perks employees will end up losing.

Yes... but continue....

(Well, start with How did the "more money" come about?)

Btw I did laugh at that. It was genuinely funny. Well done, Thanks. 😆

One was you mocking how someone commented, the other was you using the very same technique you had just criticized.

Then it was me noting how ironic that was. It's really obvious, if you pay attention.

No again re read my post. I’m telling you my intent and I think it was also plain as day mockery of others I genuinely am surprised I had to explain it to you and you continue to double down. Cringe. It was unambiguous as I’m clearly not on the side of buying into sinema toilet break harassment and screeching about a WV-D governor 24/7 to be the universal scapegost for this administrations failures on every level. Much less that they objected to a useless 3 trillion dollar bill that again we’ve seen no ROI on whatsoever.
3,000,000,000,000 take a look at that number real closely now

You can choose to go some other path I honestly don’t care but don’t continue to be annoying about it as it was your continued misunderstanding not mine

Geez

Ehhh. Careful. You're risking mixing, or confusing, causation and causality. "Poverty" is a bit more complex than simple wages. It's a whole complex array of environmental, social, fiscal, and monetary issues (maybe even more..).

You can take two identical people, same job, both minimum wage, same nearly everything but in different environments and one is above poverty and one is at or below. It's not even a matter of "blame" and accusing the poor person of <pick your favorite negative trait> (which is highly reductive generally incorrect). It's just not that easy... so.. be judicious there.

Regardless, yeah, inflation is an all around killer, and a mammoth obstacle to skate around.

After 7 years at Apple retail, even working in Maryland, and having trained Operations Specialists at the Townson store, I'm in no way surprised. However I vehemently disagree with ionization in an Apple store ...

Yeah I hear ionization in Towson is off the charts! Everyone should be wearing hazmat suits!

Glad we’ve cleared up that Left policies are garbage, even when the GOP employs them.
Thing is GOP employs them as much or more than the left historically. When looking at debt growth under each party’s rule, red team loves to spend. The GOP fiscal marketing / deception is exceptional. America is sorely missing an actual fiscally conservative party (amongst other gaps). Would love for someone to step up in this regard and clean house, regardless of party

He should buy them all bikes and offer riding lessons so that they can commute to work on greenways...
Interestingly enough, this is actually a benefit that Apple provides all of its employees (in the form of reimbursement for e-bike rental for commuting).

Imagine that Brandon even approves. Watch him get involved and the whole thing falls apart like most everything else he’s got involved with.

Even after this news it’s not a done deal

Trying to unionize is a long process with many ways for employers to stop it

"Labor law in the United States is a long process. And so the fact that a single store negotiates or elects a union doesn't mean that there's a negotiated contract in the workplace. And we know in recent history that in many of these situations, parties are unable to come to terms on an initial contract," Michael Duff, a former NLRB lawyer and professor at University of Wyoming College of Law, said Sunday.

"The employer in the United States has an awful lot of rights to simply withdraw recognition at the end of the process. The employer can prove that it no longer supports a majority of the employees in the bargaining unit," Duff added.

Even after a union is certified, a company has a number of legal maneuvers at its disposal to fight it, Duff said. For instance, Apple could say it doesn't believe that the bargaining unit certified by the NLRB is an appropriate bargaining unit and refuse to bargain with the union.

"If that happens, the whole thing goes to the courts and it could easily be a year or two before you even get the question of whether the employer is required to bargain with the union," Duff added.

Labor experts say it's common for employers to drag out the bargaining process in an effort to take the momentum out of union campaigns. It's also possible that Apple — or any other company — restructures its business so the unionized workers are reclassified as independent contractors and not employees, in which case the union vote is moot, Duff said.

Apple declined to comment on Saturday's development, company spokesperson Josh Lipton told The Associated Press by phone. Reached again Sunday, Apple did not comment.

This is probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read on here. It’s designed to rebuild bridges, roads, airports, water treatment, power grids, broadband, etc etc etc over years and years. And here you are whining that it’s “useless” because you’ve seen no return on the investment...in the less than 6 months since it was signed into law. 😂

Why haven’t they sung their praises of its accomplishments in specific terms? Why can’t anyone perceive any of its benefits? I think we know why

“Designed to” are the operative words aren’t they.

The road to hell is paved with “good intentions” but pay that no mind just gobble up as you’re told by state operatives on the tv masquerading as journalists

you should be slightly more concerned if the juice is worth the squeeze for again 3,000,000,000,000 and what impact that could have on the economy and how far your dollar goes. Apparently you aren't thats to your detriment.

Ironically, the rest of the western world thinks that the US needs it the most. We all look aghast at the US's horrid working conditions, astoundingly low minimum wages, astounding lack of annual leave, woefully expensive health care system, jaw dropping student debt, and mind blowing lack of care for the downtrodden and unfortunate. It's supposed to be the world's leading economy, but in so many ways it's more like a poor 3rd world country.

We are all like wtf, how do you let yourselves get so completely sh*t on by employers and corporations so badly. We read the comments of these articles about unions, and see the number of people upvoting and downvoting, and our eyes pop at the pure brainwashing that the billionaire owned media has achieved in turning ordinary workers so angrily against the very things that will improve their own lives. People in the US actually vehemently, angrily, vote in favour of policies that enrich the billionaires, and impoverish themselves. They do so with flag waving, nationalistic pride, as if ensuring their own ongoing poverty and virtual slavery is the definition of freedom.

"So long as everyone is as bad off as me, I'm good." It's a matter of "predictability" in most people's minds. It's actually quite a fascinating study in psychology at why this is the case. It's the confirmation-bias, actor-observer bias, and an inverse optimism bias all hard at work. They"re all working together in concert, but all fighting for the lead at the same time.

Psychologists love this stuff.

I wish Biden would worry less about political grabs of attention and worry about inflation and price of goods.
Biden put legislation on the table to do just that, including holding gas conglomerates accountable for price gouging as they are sitting on endless supply. But, republicans blocked ALL efforts to curb inflation and the price of goods (including gas) so that people can put these global issues on Biden for their own 'political grabs' while hurting their own constituents in the process. This post confirms that they've reached their target demo. For the people, they are not.

Indeed. Except there's no accountability in government. That GAO thing is pure crap theater. It should be AGO: "another government office".

This is going to be interesting. Apple has many options when addressing this union vote.

First, hours are not an issue as Apple can hire more part time staff to cover working hour limitations. Apple is also going to be vigorous in holding costs down, like limiting overtime hours. The unions MUST get a sufficient pay increase to cover the monthly union fees and it looks like the 33% who voted against unions will be free to raise hell paying those fees they had voted against.

Commissions (I assume apple pays them in some form or another) can be lowered as hourly pay increase.

One other big factor - Apple can increase non-store sales to lower sales in stores, cutting commissions. Apple's internet site is a good foundation, then there is Amazon as well as other 3rd party resellers.

The union actually have pressure to grow the stores or Apple can close some - especially when 3rd party sales are booming.

How much will those non-union employees have to pay for the right to be taken care of by the Unions?

I know that deep down, if you really think about it ... and especially considering that Democrats literally have majority rule over everything and all vote the same ... that you don't truly believe the nonsense you just typed onto your screen. And you can't honestly think that Democrats don't love the millions and billions and trillions of dollars they get from the "corporate state." Or illegal insider trading, which Nancy Pelosi seems to love. Open your eyes. Seriously. This divisive nonsense is ridiculous. You have to be living on another planet not to see the corruption going on. Both sides are corrupt but it's even worse that you aren't seeing the corruption with Democrats because they're not even hiding it anymore. In fact, they're literally bragging about it. You're purposely being obtuse at this point if you're looking the other way. I mean Biden literally, on his first day in office, shut down the keystone pipeline. And every waking moment since that day he has made every effort possible to force us to rely on foreign oil again ... when we were energy independent for the first time in a very, very long time. Because apparently foreign oil is more green friendly than domestic oil. And he blames literally everything on Putin ... and his staff members ... and pretty much everyone but himself. And I'm finding it hard to blame even Biden at this point because he doesn't know where he is half the time. And sometimes he doesn't even know he's President. It's terrifying. Even Democrats are seeing the corruption going on, so you should be able to as well. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but it sometimes really feels like the government is trying to run us into the ground on purpose.
This needs a boost.
Some genuinely think it is compassionate to take other people's (even those yet born) wealth and pass it around. Some don't really care one way or the other if these policies will actually help. And some are actively trying to run us into the ground as you say. They just want to be there to rebuild in their image and everyone will be on 'equal' footing. [Unfortunately it will be equal in poverty]
