What we have here is a scathing indictment of the American education system.

Half of 30 is 9:rolleyes:

The article says that they'll still have to put all the other logos on so no money will be saved. If you are laser engraving, you aren't paying by the logo or letter.

are you sure they didn't subtract tax?

"The senators argued that the changes would allow manufacturers to save money and pass savings onto consumers"

Worst. Argument. Ever.

Just in time to ensure the aesthetics of the apple watch aren't sullied by these symbols.

Yep, but it wouldn’t have helped the ugly ass iPhone 6.

----------

I never had that problem. I loved my iPhone 4. Also, it's about time this law was passed. Nobody cares or knows what those symbols on the back mean, and they're ugly.

Jesus wept. Sooner or later we’ll be having to remove the etching on windscreens and car tyres. I can’t think of anything right now that is more of a waste of time.

Technically, iOS has displayed a range of these logos/symbols inside Settings > General > About > Legal > License for a few years now. I imagine it would stay right where it is. Which you have to wonder, what does this matter for the iPhone considering the (pictured) CDMA iPhone 4, the only model of iPhone to be exclusively sold in the US, never had any logos/symbols – FCC or otherwise – on it in the first place.

The Verizon iPhone, however, does have the FCC ID number.

----------

Words can not describe how pointless this law is.

Yet the companies who make the devices spent money lobbying for the law nonetheless.

I'm just happy to know that our senators are really working hard for us and trying to put more money back in our pockets. Man those guys on the hill have a tough job.

I highly doubt that companies will save a significant amount of money from no longer being required to etch the FCC logo on their products. Further, any savings will not be passed onto consumers.

The only upside here is the fact that we'll be getting a slightly less ugly housings on our electronics. Then again, these etchings are always in unobtrusive areas so who cares?
There must be a significant benefit to companies, otherwise they wouldn't have lobbied Congress to go through the process of proposing, crafting, and voting on, and passing this act.

exactly.

I slept so well last night after that news... /s :D

Really, I mean did this really have to be signed into law? Does our POTUS not have better things to do???

The manufacturers are salivating, they'll save millions, .50x15 million plus? Consumers won't save ****! This law is strictly for big business to increase profits! I'm curious to know who wrote & pushed this? Could it be the manufacturers?;)

Passing savings on to consumer is beyond laughable!

Absolutely correct, even if they only save a penny per device, Apple alone would have saved over $15 million plus on the first wave of iPhone 6,s! That's just an example. We, the consumers won't save ****!!!

That or the fact that it is ugly and people do not like them.
Saving to the companies will be near zero if not zero because they still will be later etching stuff on there a lot of the time.

It's funny.. cause etching can let us save money while Apple already charges double for their phones compared to what it costs them. ha.

Really, you don't know what the phone actually costs them. Just the price of the components...Samsung charges a similar ratio as well...and if I built a phone, so would I.

----------

I don't have words for how stupid this is.

Stop. Watching. Fox. News.

Seriously. Just stop it.

I don't think he was serious but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out if you are.

Your ignorance is closely aligned with @ImSoSad above. You're probably one of those guys pushing for Romney to run in 2016. He lost so get over it. You should change your username to Mittfan.

I'm afraid you're the ignorant one if you think that just because somebody doesn't like Obama that makes them a republican. For instance I don't like either side and actively support certain third party candidates when possible. Some people may say that I'm throwing away my vote but at least I'm not insane like the American public, who goes from hating republicans to loving democrats to hating democrats and loving republicans. They're pretty much all the same and they're all duping you guys. Each one that gets elected is a bigger jackhole than the one before. Other options are available if people would just stop following the herd groupthink mentality of partisan divisiveness.

Anyway, as for this FCC thing I'm not sure why everyone is arguing about it. Who cares what the reasoning is—it's a better change in the long run. I can't imagine how well this forum would have received news that a law passed which added more mandatory text to your devices. You guys would have had a conniption. Some liberal hippie could want to pass a law that lists out every single chemical inside an iPhone that could be potentially harmful across the back in a massive list. Or some conservative redneck could pass a law requiring a giant soaring bald eagle across the back that says "Murica, hell yeah!" You never know with these morons.

Why don't you do a little research on how a lot of this crap gets passed. You blame it all on one man when in fact we have an entire country filled with Democrats and Republicans with personal agendas closely aligned with big business. You should change your username to ImSoMad.

What gets me is that when the country votes republicans to run the house and senate "America has spoken" but when a democratic president is elected, "We have a king".

I can't even figure out how he got to 9. The closest I can come is divide 9 by 3 and multiply by 10. There's just no relationship between the two numbers...

I don't think he was serious but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out if you are.

There's been campaign on the major rep/con networks, fox mostly, where they keep talking about how he "might as well light the constitution on fire."

Then they take a match or a lighter to a copy of the constitution for their viewers to watch. They repeat things like this OVER, and OVER, and OVER until everyone has seen it, and their brainless constituents then repeat word for word the same, moronic one-liners.

If he was kidding, I couldn't tell. Honestly it's so hard to tell the difference between a conservative republican and a troll these days.

I'm confused by your thinking that the American public keeps changing its mind. Most elections are extremely close, the widest margin is typically a couple of percent...and no election represents all of the voters. What you end up with is people in the middle choosing a candidate they prefer and people on the left or right showing stronger support in some elections (turning out to vote). Which leads me to this - if you are following any PARTY you are following the herd. If you want to make things right, you vote for the better candidate...not the better party. You're just taking a broken system and playing a broken game with it by voting for some alternative party. In the end, you can tell which candidates even have a shot at running the country, voting for some odd ball party candidate is probably going to detract a vote from a candidate you may actually have preferred.

Jeez, no I haven't seen it. To me that's like burning a flag...hypocrites.

I still believe this guy was joking. My sister is a school teacher, she tells me that whenever anything goes wrong, the kids in her school exclaim "Thanks, Obama". The right is truly becoming a joke.

$15 million at one penny per device? That would be 1.5 BILLION iPhones in the first wave. Somehow, I don't think that's possible.

…
...If this is the way forward why not just remove the FCC requirements, since the label will not mean anything any more and then we won't have to pay for it.

Now you get where Industry lobbying, er, um enthusiasm, is encouraging "our" Representatives to lead us to.

Frankly I rather like this stuff on all FCC certified products even if it doesn't look that nice - coming from a background of radio products.
