No, you shouldn't have to turn everything to it's lowest setting. You might have to mess with push, but that should be it.

Here's how your OP came across: Tbe Genius told me to do certain things, since he considered my battery to be normal. I refused, got upset, and the Genius gave me a new phone anyway.

With your additional info after the OP. obviously there was more to it and the Genius was wrong. Can you see why people might think less of your OP with the info originally given?

At any rate, it couldn't have been horrible or you wouldn't have got a new phone.

Yep I see your point.

I've always been pleased with my Genius interactions and that's generally not the case in most other places.

For the most part I am usually more surprised by good service than poor service. My criteria isn't exactly demanding either.... look me in the eye, give me what I paid for, and say thank you. I really can't stand it when a clerk doesn't look at me.

Well with the way some people (on MR) treat employees at Apple Stores - I'm not surprised someone avoids eye contact and/or tries to quickly solve/get rid of the person :)

ETA - the OP titled this thread wrong anyway. "Pretty Bad" experience? Not at all.

You got what you wanted, I don't see why you had to come here and complain.
I also don't see why you're using it as an itouch (you said no phone) but then later you're saying you paid 200 and a 2 yr contract... what's the contract for if you're not even using it as a phone?

OP, did you ever consider part of the reason the battery life is so bad is because you are using push and only wifi, so any time you aren't on a wifi network your phone just sits there and trys to find a wifi network.

You also left out other important information such as what you have your brightness set at and what specific apps you have in the background, because unfortunately some apps have implemented multi tasking incorrectly, and drain the battery excessively (the worst offender I have noticed myself is Slacker.)

50% autobrightness, no search for wifi, wifi off when I'm not using it. I use boxcar, facebook, and meebo for push (meebo only when I have it open which is rarely). I don't have Pando, Slacker, or skype. I only have about ~5-6 more apps than default.

Thanks for some constructive criticism rather than a pointless post.

I upgraded from a dumbphone then switched back to it and removed the data plan to get the iPhone for $200

Have you tried airplane mode as opposed to just turning wifi off? Because otherwise your phone is going to sit there and try and register to the 2g network all day.

Haha I forgot to mention that as well -.-
I had airplane mode on all the time, and turn the wifi on/off in airplane mode

Precisely, if he has a SIM in there, and based on what I've read, he does, the phone will try to connect to the network. This will kill battery life faster than almost anything.

There was probably nothing wrong with the original iPhone to begin with.

I feel sorry for Genius employees who encounter guys like these.

Exactly which part of your experience was bad? lol

If you've cared to read my posts it, it explains there.

You can take a class, try really hard, sleep late at night studying every day, get into argument with the professor over grading, and finally obtain what you sought for: an A.

That doesn't mean the experience was good though.

If a smart person like you were to have read my posts carefully or to even bother to LOOK at my picture, it would be pretty self explanatory that I had it on airplane mode.

Nice.

.

maybe not, but i'm sure most people would just be happy they got their A. In the words of Monty Python "Always look on the briiiiigggghhhttt siiiiiide of life!" ;)

AH ok. So in this scenario you were empathizing with the Genius who helped you and explaining what a bad experience he had. Got it.

I've stated before that I was grateful to have my phone replaced. It still doesn't mean the experience of getting it replaced was good. This is exactly the same as the class analogy I've made to help clarify the issue....

As a general response - OP did get his phone replaced which was good, and sure they may have made an "exception" to replace the phone even when the service diagnostics couldn't detect a problem with the battery. BUT, I must admit that over the past few months I have noticed geniuses express the "attitude" more and more often, even when there is no reason for it.

OP, if you really want to make your point be heard, send a note here:

http://www.apple.com/retail/feedback/

You will definitely get a call back from the manager of that store or Apple CR regarding your experience.

All I get from this post is the image of children fighting in the playground. It goes from the OP, to sarcasm, to really no purpose for this thread.

Should be closed imo.

You consider this a bad experience? I think he was pretty kind and generous in allowing you to exchange the iPhone despite knowing he wasn't supposed to.

I personally have never had a good Genius Bar experience; I always seem to get stuck with the rudest, woke up on the wrong side of the universe, most unhelpful geniuses which have always caused me to go "huh?!" every time people talk about Apple's supposedly amazing customer service and support.

TL;DR: I would kill for an experience like yours next time I need to have any of my Apple products serviced.
