That's just the thing, online the student discount is only $100 for the MBP, yet in store people have reported a $200 discount.

If this is the way they're going to go, I guess I will have to pay the extra $100 just to get the spanish keyboard layout next year when I order

that's interesting. I didn't know education discounts were possible period at the retail stores, I thought there were only for online.

I'm glad I bought mine the first day, when the discount was still 10% :D:apple::p

EDIT:Only the discount for the low-end MBP has changed, the upper-end, 2.53 and 2.8 configs have not, they are still 10%. That may change, but that was as of 1:19 PM EDT.

yeah, retail stores offer the education discount as well, that's how I got my MBP.

So I just purchased my 2.4 GHz with a student discount and after having one CS rep tell me the discount was only a $100 dollars, I figured that was the best I was going to get on my purchase. Well a different girl rang up my purchase and when I informed her that I was a student and would like to get my discount, she actually gave me $200 off! I was kinda shocked when I looked at my reciept, especially since I was only expecting 100 off.

Pretty much what I am getting at is I don't get how that is possible, but it happened and I got out the door with a $1799 purchase price! Swwweet!

Anyone else have this sorta luck?

BTW it was at the Brea mall store
oh wow, do yuo get the student discount in store? I thought you had to go online for that. Well, I just finished placing my order for the 2.4ghz MacBook online. I got a free printer with it as well. (I'm not sure if I did the best bang for buck with the printer though - I went with a $99.95 option one so I could get it free after rebate)

So I envied Down3yDJdud3 at first, but actually, something worked out nicely for us with my brother's macbook and the free printer promotion. He bought a MacBook last month using the education discount (he's a student) so we saved $100 off of retail w/ that, and got a $100 printer free after rebate. We didn't care much for the printer and were just planning on selling it.

Well Apple mailed us the $100 rebate check right away and we cashed it. And when they tried to deliver us the printer, they kept running into problems (because we are at a temporary residence) so the printer was just returned to Apple and they refunded us back the $99 we paid for the printer - but we still got to keep the rebate check.

So ultimatley, rather than have to keep $100 printer we didn't want, we basically saved an extra $100 off the MacBook instead, making the final price $1400.

I need to get one more MacBook Air for my wife right now to replace her 15" 2.16ghz MacBook Pro. I'm trying to figure out if there are any similar printer promotions (or something else) for students running before I order (I'm a student). I kind of want to buy from retail to see if I could have the same luck as Down3yDJdud3 and save $200 off of the cheapest, new MacBook Air (under the assumption the education discount on it is only $100 off instead of $200 - I haven't checked).

In Austria and Germany you get a 8% Student discount online, which amounts to about 150€ for the cheapest MBP. That's ok I guess...

In Finland the student prices still seem to be the same. Since stores here seem to charge a bit more ordering online seems to be the cheapest way to a Macbook. In a store I was quoted 1175€ for a 2.0 Macbook with student discount whereas online it's 1127€.
