While USB 3.0 may align with the goals of most people, Apple doesn't necessarily try to sell to the majority. They target a wealthier more educated demographic. One that thinks differently. Even if it's a bunch of BS, it seems to be working for them.

* Looks at College degree....makes really good money....simulation engineer.....does all my work on a PC *.....I must be more and stupid for using a PC huh? Or it could be because Apple makes underpowered hardware?

USB 3.0 is going to co exist with Thunderbolt on macs, because the industry standard will be USB 3.0 for 95% of devices, while TB will be like FW and find a niche.

The Mac as it stands now I think caters to computer users who have money to spend, but really don't want to do anything serious on their machines, or they just like the OSX interface.

I mean, if we are talking the " Pro " market. The recent " update " shows exactly how much apple cares about " Pros "

Not that anyone in their right might should buy a Modren Mac, I've been buying new Macs since the Pismo, ( first new tower was a G4, bought g4s over the years, and a new G5 ). New Macs are total crap build quality wise compared to the old ones.

But even that could be over-priced.

(since a dual-port 6 Gbps eSATA PM-enabled PCIe hardware RAID 0/1/5 controller is only $45)
Oops, I overstated. Macbook with tb needs also at least fullHD matte screen, before I'm willing to pay for it...

Also 95% of tb users will use tb just for display and/or storage, which would both be more efficiently handled by dp & esata.

Probably closer to 99.9% - or 0.1%, depending on how you count.

If you connect an mDP display to the T-Bolt port, you're not using T-Bolt - so you're not a T-Bolt user.

USB3 should gain some popularity too. Regular old displayport is great. It's a pain in the ass to find a mini displayport to displayport cable, and dongles suck. Apple has some of the most worthless adapters imaginable.

hardly surprising it is now really looking like firewire (especially 800) all over again .. incredible performance at an incredible price...

firewire was perhaps 30% more expensive and it it didn't make it on the market, and TB turns out to be even more expensive, ... the idea to put the interface chips into the cables to make devices cheaper was a rather huge failure IMHO

it has been 1,5 years and the stores are filled with usb3 devices while TB devices are as common as unicorns

luckily i can use a mini display port to HDMI adapter or otherwise this would have been the most pointless port any of my computers ever had IMHO
