If you are not on a subsidy plan why would they show contract and early upgrade rather than contract to resign and then full price?

I assumed the price I saw when I checked mine was full price. I shouldn't have the option for an early upgrade if I am not on a subsidy plan. I would assume it's either sign or pay full price shown?
So basically I am not allowed to do next without signing another contract?

Just divide full retail by 24 months instead of 20 (Next 12)

That's false. When I checked my upgrade eligibility on Apple's site it offered me contract or Next.

I got this when checking my upgrade status on Apple's website.

There's an existing order for the phone number you provided. You can only have one upgrade order per phone number at a time.
You'll be able to place additional iPhone orders once you receive and activate this iPhone.

Weird.
