This is a typically Apple implementation! Love it.

Take something fairly standard (even something they already do) and rethink it to get something even better. Similar M.O. to how the MacBook trackpad was changed from a mechanical element to a software-based simulated click.

It also doubles down on their privacy stance, giving these indicators even more prominence.

Presuming the extra brightness comes from the same root as how iPhone can overpower its display to better present HDR content, "bringing the nits".

As it should! Love the fact the Privacy Indicators on iPhone 14 Pro's Pill-shaped cutout will be brighter. It would be nice to see different colors of LED lights which can help you notify what actually you are doing with your iPhone. In addition, a light indicator when your location is being used would be useful.

Seems like it'll be more annoying than the notch because it's easier to ignore something at the edge of the display.

You could always sharpie the area of the display between the pill and the top edge 😆

They don't drop down anymore on iOS 16. They come up from the bottom of the screen.

The blinking LED is still one of the things I miss most about Blackberry devices. I hope this can be used as a notification LED as well.

Also there is a ton of vertical space, like too much space, for status bar icons on either side of the cutout, if the icons are going to be vertically even with the cutout. Wondering how Apple is going to handle that.

I think it might be just on the Lock Screen. I could be wrong though, I'm not on the beta. But yeah, notifications at the bottom would be really weird.

So can we finally have a red notification led when the device screen is off? Use ‘attention aware’ and have your iPhone light up a bright red LED when you’ve missed a message or call. We’ve had software red badge notifications on iOS for what? A decade and a half? Green for cam and orange for Mic seem fine enough, surely also a purple dot for location services?

I mean, the Apple Watch has that, so it would make sense. We also need a blue light for when your phone's about to explode, and a yellow light for when your phone is being microwaved

If you look for it, you can find those indicator dots already on today‘s iPhones next to the notch when the mic or cam is on. These dots will go inside the pill.

Yes, you can. First, they are not bright enough. Second, it's under the screen. Real LED lights would be awesome. Blackberry vibes.

Agree to LED lights would be awesome. But my understanding is that it’s actually the Display that is in the pill between the camera and Face ID stuff. I might be wrong though

They still drop down when you are on the home screen and in an app... from the bottom is only lock screen and notification center.

Being able to see that space between the pill and the ear peace when watching a movie is just going to look absolutely terrible, If they decide to cut that portion off with a black bar then it reduces the screen in landscape mode.

They should have copied the same idea from the 13 pro max, until the hardware to remove it completely was approved!

They could have implemented the indicators while keeping the overall notch shape.

You had this exact question on brightness yesterday I think! Great to hear it’ll be bright enough to see. With it being closer to the middle it will be easier to notice as well.

OLED makes sense as it needs to look “black” enough to blend in with the rest of the pill.
