I think now with the technology available the wish list calls for: Thunderbolt 5, ProMotion 6K display, more local dimming zones, higher brightness (like 2,600 nits minimum for highlights), better calibration options for color accuracy and maintenance, and a dedicated on-board processor for the same things the Studio Display can do would be right on the money.

Pro Display XDR 2 will be an outstanding display for those professionals that *need* that kind of performance.

Apple isn't targeting it to the average computer user, which likely makes up 95+% of their customer base. Apple's Studio Display meets all of my needs as a photographer who's editing photos in Lightroom everyday - it's a great display.

The Pro Display is just way too expensive. I don't know who outside of the TV/Movie industry buys these.

The Studio Display has still not been matched in terms of build quality and even image quality and even speaker quality (for a built-in speaker), but its webcam is absolutely embarrassing. Apple isn't a junior in the optics department, but I'll be straight and say the webcam totally sucks. I bought two Studio Displays on the refurb market and I returned them right away. I couldn't stand it. It looks kinda good in Best Buy with all those lights, but in real world, it's a no. The webcam in the iMac M1 and up is far, far, far superior.
This monitor is not suitable for color work at all. There is no way to reduce color to a single denominator. Expensive junk. Benq, Sony, EIZO monitors are five heads above it in quality. We had these monitors in the office for no more than 2 days - gave them back without regret. I work with TV and magazines, processing on this display is rejected instantly.

It will be 8k, 120Hz for $10,000 not including the stand.

And the "new improved, magical" stand should be at least $2K now. ;)

But I'd expect another 5K-like oddball res instead of a mainstream 8K that will eventually be commoditized down to surprisingly cheap (relatively)... something like 9.275K or 10.250.3K or similar. Else Apples 8K vs. mainstream 8K alternatives will be like Apple RAM or SSD vs. mainstream RAM or SSD in a million comparisons in thousands of threads. Go oddball res to fit "retina" and they have one-of-a-kind key spec demanding a fat premium... with no direct competition for at least a while until 1 or 2 others opt to create one only for Mac people too.

This is not for TV and magazines. This is for content creators who create content for iOS and Mac devices.

If it looks good on an Apple Studio Display or Pro XDR, it will look good on iPhone’s, iPad and MacBook’s as they all look consistent.

In the end, most people consume their content on mobile devices like iPhone’s these days, so it has it’s place in the market.

TV and magazines are “old media” so I wouldn’t call it “expensive junk” because it is not geared towards old media.

The current model is already an incredible display. I know because I own one and work with it everyday. One of the best purchases I made. Anyone one who doesn't make money with their computer/ display should own one of these unless they have a trust fund or like to blow money.

What excites me most about an updated model is Thunderbolt 5 and the ability to potentially get ProMotion in this display. I would most likely sell mine and upgrade if this comes to fruition next year.
You got ripped off. There are much better displays for much less. 60Hz for a monitor at that price, while competing displays offer 240hz? 🤣

Yeah. I don’t understand people thinking only big production studios have these. I have two. Amazing monitors. Cannot wait until they are updated to 120Hz. Should work with one cable on TB5!

Very happy with my two Studio Displays that upgraded my two vintage 2013 27" Apple displays in 2021 along with the Mac Studio to replace my Black trash can MacPro. Will acquire a third one to replace a brand x screen for my file server. In the summer, the new Studio Display will be connected to a loaded M4 Pro mini in the mountains and return in the fall.

Why would you buy a monitor and return it because of the webcam? That shouldn't even be part of the decision. You can get an external webcam that will far exceed any in-built offering.

I'm not even going to so much as look at this thing if Apple charges the same price or higher and it doesn't come with a 120Hz panel. And if it doesn't, I hope it's a bigger failure than the Vision Pro. It's time Apple start learning that while yes they have a loyal customer base they dutifully built up over from decades of their reputable quality products, there are some things that are too ridiculous even for your most steadfast apologists.
