My recommendation: If you are worried, just make sure your network is "quiet", no heavy downloads, or video streaming that can eat up bandwidth and potentially increase latency.

If you want the lowest ping then you need to use Apple Store wifi. They have DIRECT fiber to the mothership. If your ping is < 10ms to Cupertino then you have a good chance, > 50ms and you have ZERO chance of pre-order.
