It’s still up for pre order on the 27th of October for the 3rd of November release. In more than 55 countries simultaneously. Including China and India. Not to mention , the US and most of Europe and Australia. Plus stock for all the Apple stores, mobile networks, and authorised resellers. I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure they have the production up and running. Unless of course they are planning to only release a handful in each country.

That's one thing that strikes me as quite odd. The immense release they're planning yet production starts 2 weeks before release? I really don't know how this could be explained, unless its just some hysteria being caused so more feel compelled to order right away.

Fake news! If this was true, with a global launch it would force Apple to push back the release date because hardly anyone would actually get one on launch day AND most other people would not get theirs until mid 2018!

Who says this isn't the plan? Everyone doesn't have to have their phone by release day. I can almost guarantee only a handful of people on this forums will get their phone on release day. By 12:01 there will be a 4 week wait, mark my words.

Two thirds of Apple's revenue comes from iPhone.

Apple has to launch no matter what, otherwise year end looks bad for Tim Cook and his team. Just because something is available for order doesn't mean it will ship soon.

Similarly, Tesla had to launch Model 3 no matter what, even if they are producing 150 cars a month. It has a psychological impact on the stock and customer perception.

iPhone 8 isn't looking great in terms of sales and without soft launching iPhone X, market share will begin to erode.
