So...

Any news on a Firmware update to address these issues?

Thanks

G

No still no word. i check every day for software update and my computer is still up to date. I still have the problem, but powering off and rebooting fixes the problem. I don't live near an apple store and this is CTO as well so I am hoping to get this fixed since I don't want to be without a computer for a week. Hopefully all will be well soon.

My 2011 13 MBP seems to have wake from sleep issues if I allow it to AUTO SLEEP.

screen will be black or scrambled graphics.

If i put it to sleep myself no problems at all.

Oh, yes, also a bit hot when playing 720 or 1080 videos from youtube...zooms up past 90C then the fans kick in to 6200 rmp...

Apple, firmware fixes, please!

I did a test yesterday and was able to have 2 tabs open in safari playing 1080p and my temps were around 54-60 the fans were at like 2400

I did notice one time that the screen was garbled for a second upon waking, other than that I have had no issues... This machine actually runs VERY cool compared to my 4 year old Santa Rosa 17" C2D MBP...

I saw a post on the Apple forums today that turning off automatic graphics switching in system preferences seemed to fix the wake from sleep issue that you guys are writing about.

Myself...fingers crossed, my 15" 2.2 doesn't have the issue - even without auto graphic switching still on.

I had a similar problem where if I let the machine (1-week-old Macbook Pro 17") sleep automatically due to battery draining to zero, it wouldn't come up again normally - I'd get a black screen with the normal soft HD/fan noise but no response. The only cure initially was to power off by holding the power key and restarting after about a minute or so. Then, poking around Energy Saver prefs, I intuited that maybe the auto graphics switching was the problem- Turns out it was. Waking from sleep seems to work just fine now. Hope this helps.

On my second 2011 17" MBP. Stuck / bad pixels (only 1 in each but 1 is 1 too many). So disappointing after spending the money and hearing of the great quality of Macs.

Hope 3rd time is the charm because this one is going back to Best Buy this week.

same problem with my 13inch 2011

seems to happen when it is in sleep for long periods of time. computer seems to wake up but screen doesnt want to. lag is apparent and when it does come on the screen is scrambled for a second.

Mostly likely graphics switching...

It will _not_ be the HDD.

It won't be the HDD, its probably the graphics switching. I'm on my 3rd MBP and was experiencing similar problems. i've had the logic board replaced due to problems with Intel Graphics.

I found out that also some applications stuff up the computer, like WD Smart Ware. try downloading gfxCardStatus and it will tell you if any programs are relying on discrete graphics. if so force quit it from activity monitor. this worked for me and it now works fine :)

The same problem here, just got my MBP last week and when waking up from sleep, the keyboard lights up but the screen is black, what i do it to close the lid and open up and the display will wake up

Mine does the same. Doesn't happen all the time.

i had a 2009 17" mbp which i had a lot of issues with (after i brought it in for a routine fix). the thing never seemed to work the same after they opened it up and started fooling around, but thats beside the point.

apple replaced it with the 2011 17" mbp, and i can say it runs a lot hotter. even the fans are louder. i have not had the graphics issue, however i have gfxcardstatus installed and force it to use the HD3000. I find i get lower temperatures on it. It sucks that unlike my 2009 mpb, i cannot control which graphics processor i can use.
