Hi all,

I've tried both iGotYa and iCaughtU (not Pro) in the last day and I can't get either of them to work consistently.

iCaughtU:
I can't get any emails to be sent at all, neither for entering the passcode incorrectly, nor for trying to shut down the phone from the lock screen (although it does prevent the phone from shutting down)

iGotYa:
Emails are occasionally sent for but incorrect passcode entry or attempted shutdown, but really infrequently and there doesn't appear to be any pattern.

1) Are there any conflicts with other Cydia apps that might be causing the problem?
2) Has anyone encountered this problem, an if so, how did you manage to resolve it/them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yeah, the test worked for me too... It seems to work for others, so I presume there is a conflict with one of the other apps I have installed... ANNOYING!!!

I don't think it's a conflict I tried it with a fresh install of cydia and it still didn't work. After a restore and re-jailbreak. So I don't think that's the answer

Icaughtyou is working

For sending the email, make sure you read

It says you need to configure a gmail account

Outgoing server smtp.gmail.com
Username + email : email@gmail.com
Password : email password

It works #1 for me, ipad and iphone

I tried it firstly with my gmail, then my hotmail account... No luck.
It doesn't make sense!

Does iCaughtU have a support line/email contact?
iGotYa doesn't respond at all, to emails or phone calls!

Dunno then working fine here

Sometimes emails are slow to enter but that's not a big deal for me

Yea we know how to read and understand basic instructions , it is not working for everyone

Those have have either one, can you check and see if Location services enables automatically when you enter the wrong passcode or does it need to be activated prior to "accident"?

Totally randomly, iGotYa appears to have started working.
Up until now, i'd only been testing the apps at my apartment but earlier, I popped out and tried it 6-7 times and it worked flawlessly every time.
Could it have something to do with being on 3g vs wi-fi?

I think it might also have to do with triangulating my position at home because, when I was out of the house, I received a couple of notifications from iGotYa, that related to errors I'd committed hours previously.

In theory, the triangulation of the phone should be possible even when I'm on my home wifi right?

Thanks.

Some ISPs will "helpfully" block outgoing SMTP connections to all servers but theirs. This is ostensibly to keep compromised computers from sending SPAM but also is great for ticking off people with enough gall not to use only their email servers. I don't know which SMTP port the app(s) use to connect to the Google SMTP server but you can set up your gmail account in Apple Mail on a computer using your wifi and try to send mail from there. If that doesn't work the ISP might be blocking those connections.

I'm having issues with iGotYa also (slow/infrequent times in sending emails, many times location is not given with emails - see attached photo, the safe mode is jacked up, etc.). I've been trying to contact them for over 2 weeks to help with these issues and most importantly the fact that Cydia is not recognizing the app as a previous purchase (my previous thread about this - http://tinyurl.com/cz545mp). I've emailed many times over a two week period. Their live chat doesn't work and when I call their phone number listed it always has a message saying to email (don't ever get to talk to an actual person). TERRIBLE customer service.

location is not given with emails

I had this issue the first 2 or 3 times I entered an incorrect passcode, but it seems to have resolved itself.
Have you tried using the app outdoors, when it's not connected to wifi? It worked flawlessly for me yesterday, on 3g, but I tried once again yesterday nigh, on wifi, and nothing happened.

Also, regarding the sending of emails, iGotYa isn't using my email account to sent the emails (I'm pretty sure) as I haven't entered any of my account info, other than where the "notification of loss" email should be sent. However, I believe iCaughtU does send emails from your account.

Is location services turning itself on or do you have to have it enabled ?

I have iCaughtu pro and it does work fine but when i am inside or not connected to any wifi network, it gives location at "North Atlantic Ocean" which looks like a default location set by the developer if location is not found.
Not sure how to get a proper location through cell tower triangulation.

I had problems initially with iCaughtU sending e-mails, but after the last update, all my e-mails sent, and now send perfectly every time.

I have tried both. It seems to be random. I looked at my emails where I was testing things (10 total), and 6 of the emails did not have the location pinpointed in the email while 4 had the correct location.

But does the tweak enable location services by itself or do you have to have it on ??

For me i have kept location services always ON for iCaughtu pro, if that is what you asked ?
I entered a wrong code and after unlocking my phone with proper code, i went to location services and saw a purple arrow indicating location services were being used at the moment.

Also to try what you mentioned, i turned off location services ONLY for icaughtyou pro (the overall location services is still ON) and after entering a wrong code, it by itself turned on location services.

Every year that I try both of these packages they always have tons of bugs and many issues that in the end is not worth keeping it installed.
Its nice to have a mugshot and location of the potential thief of your device but dont know if its worth it when it causes so many issues and the app dont even run right most the time.
Would be great if they fixed it and it ran solid. I wouldnt mind paying for the full version if it wasnt that buggy.

I just purchased iCaughtuPro and I have no problems this far.
Why I bought it so recently is because i'm going away for a week.

I love it already.
