Problems with Siri when using earpods or hey siri

Well C DM, you are a genius for sure...

After a couple walks with my earpods and even hey siri, it appears as though hands free now works as I would expect...

SO to clarify, it looks like the fix to this issue was to enable the messages preview in the notifications settings. Go figure... You would think that allowing siri on the lock screen would be enough??
