UK
Outside the US, many stores are opening before online orders start.

For example, in the UK, they go on sale at 3:01PM local time (8:01AM Pacific), but Apple stores will be open in the morning.

Does anyone know if this means they won't be on sale in stores until the afternoon?

Good question (not sure of the answer).

Pretty sure the stores never know themselves until the day. I remember back when the white iPhone 4 was released, if you recall it was this time of year ish in the iPhone 4's product cycle. I rang my local Apple store the night before its release, and they were adamant they would not be stocking it, hadn't heard anything from HQ or whatever. The next day they had loads of them.

Im looking at an upgrade with O2 and they are as fecklessly useless as they were last September. I've been told 3 "on sale" times. Midnight (cross that one out then) 8am or 3.01pm

I'll check at 8am

Where did you hear about 3.01 ?

3:01PM is when Apple are beginning orders online.

I'm asking about instore availability however.

FYI for anyone interested, stores were selling from opening and there is plenty of stock.

(And it looks great!)

Yep can confirm that Apple stores have been selling since this morning in the UK, plenty of stock of product red and 32/128 iPhone SE!

His is a weird release. It was released at 8pst/11est. Got mines :)
It was a simultaneous website time around the world, hence 3:01PM UK time. But stores were selling them from opening, so I got mine at 10AM here, i.e. 3AM Pacific.

I took some AirPods back to Trafford Centre at around 3pm and they were on display and for sale in the Apple Store

Must admit....the red is very nice!! I've already had and returned an IP7 on launch but am tempted by the 7+.....just can't commit yet until I see what the S8 has to offer next week!!

I picked up my Product Red iPhone earlier today. Plenty of stock in the stores around my area; Central Texas. I think that this launch is not going to be as frenzied as an original release, but there were a lot of people with orders waiting to be picked up.

Called O2 store in MK, UK at 1pm. They had received a delivery of 1 of each model in both memory sizes. They put one by for me and I collected 30 mins later. Very straightforwards.

You could walk into any Apple Store and easily get one. This has to be the least amount of interest I have ever seen from folks with regard to a new product release.

It does not take much for Apple folks to jump on things. :)

And what about the new iPad? Not one soul in either store early to try to check it out. I heard zero inquires about it.
Well, it's not really new either, is it? It's a product update. Improved processor, cheaper screen, lower price tag. It's now entry level iPad.
