Hi all
Just received my Samsung 970 evo 500gb and lycom dt 120. Anyways I was wondering how to properly format it because it’s showing up as a external drive for some reason, not sure if this is correct. Currently on 140.0.0.0.0 bootrom, and successfully booted high Sierra but it’s showing up like an external drive instead of an internal drive.
Here is a snapshot of disk utility.

you didn't do anything wrong, this is the normal way this type of disk is detected. NVMe drives on PCIe will be seen as external.

To add to what others have said, this has no effect on the drives performance or capabilities, just the way Mac OS sees it

Well that’s a relief. What about the container disk it created? It made that when I chose to format the nvme to APFS.

Besides from being a cosmetic annoyance, is there really any problem leaving it as a external drive? Would it cause any real issues?

I just paste the regular (internal) icon over the external one in the get info box and forget all about it, i agree it niggles a bit seeing the external icon. There are no downsides however. Run blackmagic speedtest that will make you smile...

This amuses me since my ‘internal’ sled drives are being swapped in and out constantly, whereas my pcie/nvme drive never gets removed :) I did do the ‘innie’ kext and it’s recognized as an internal drive now.

Don’t paste a regular, platter drive icon on your sexy NVMe drive! Use mine instead! IT”S NOT A HARD DRIVE! :)

Here's another one

Open it in Preview, do a Cmd+A (to select All), copy with Cmd+C, then paste Cmd+V into the top icon area of the drive in the Get Info info window.
