If they do this, wouldn't they also get rid of the rounded display glass on top and make it flush like the iPhone? Then they could bring the edges out to where the rounded part extends now, pull the bezels back a touch, and increase the display size by a good amount. This would also allow for a bit more battery capacity and/or room for additional sensors. I think my ideal Apple Watch size is in the 46-48mm range.

My Series 4 is looking at me with an anxious grin.
Yeah, mine did the same thing when I got my partner her first S6... aaaaannnd I couldn't resist the temptation to upgrade. Guess my FOMO will rear its stupid head if this gets redesigned...

Hopefully it's much thinner - not interested in an Apple Watch til it's slim
I'd think some HUGE improvements to battery tech will still need to occur to make this a reality and if it does, I'd still prefer this S6 size with that tech. Then my watch could last even longer across multiple days with all the workout tracking.

I’m a fan. Just hope the edges don’t cut into the skin (I have issues with the crown on my right hand when I do push-ups for instance) and that old bands fit. Although for me a redesign won’t be enough for me to upgrade fro the current model. If it’s a redesign plus the rumored blood glucose and alcohol monitoring then I’ll buy no problem.
Wife (and also, Putin) had the same problem. Try to switch the crown's side.

Watch the Series 7 just be a Series 6 with a spec bump, new color, and a 720p FaceTime camera pulled from an old MacBook Air.

This really feels like change for change's sake. Even though it is just a render, there aren't too many other ways this could look. And it does not look good.

Prosser says Apple has been testing "experimental colors" and that the green color option is not entirely set in stone. Prosser says that Apple could offer the Apple Watch 7 in a variety of additional colors.
It's also worth noting that Prosser says his source cannot confidently say that this specific Apple Watch design is the Series 7 and that it could even be the Apple Watch Series 8, destined for 2022.
Lots of disclaimers there :)

I mean in fairness bro the 40MM series 5/6 with invisible/integrated lug straps are really tiny. It doesn’t feel that thick tbh, various field watches are just as thick but huge by lug-to-lug measurements.

For me, a 36MM, 42Mm lug-to-lug watch with a depth of 9MM is peak performance, smart watch or otherwise. Hate the huge watch trend(s). Should be reversing, though.

That said there are still a myriad of rather large by diameter but semi-thin analog watches so I get it, and I’d love a 9MM (depth) round Apple Watch even at cost of features.

I’d like flat edges, like the other Apple products.

BTW, isn’t it time for white ceramic again?
Well, if you recall, they originally introduced the white ceramic, discontinued it in place of the gray ceramic, obviously which now the ceramic is discontinued all together. I think Apple figured out that the ceramic is just out of the price range for average consumers, and it’s also costly to manufacture, and given that it’s their least popular Apple Watch with the inflated price, I’d say it’s never coming back regardless.

Yup, as long as the current bands still work...I'm all for it. I've amassed a few bands for my AW.

Finally a design change for the AW. I never really liked the AW design and am tired of it, so anything that looks different or updated will be an improvement

Definitely all for it. I enjoy the aesthetic, and especially enjoy the thought of maximizing the volume of the internal space for hardware.
