Bring production to the US. Then we can "rip off" a Chinese company for once. Instead of the status quo of doing business over there. (Blatantly ripping off US trademarks and designs that are manufactured over there)

Seconded. Apple should manufacture the iPad domestically in the US.

Pure extortion. I'm betting that Foxconn pays a whole lot more in taxes to the Chinese government than Proview.... I wonder who will win out here.....

If Apple loses, the iPad will continues... with the name... MagicPad

Just like they did with Mighty Mouse... they'll simply rename it the Magic Pad or the Apple Pad like Apple TV.

Stand back and enjoy China vs Corporate America at its very, very best. The former is about to get a valuable lesson in how to conduct a sustainable business model - and they couldn't ask for a better teacher.

I would still think Apple would be #1 if the products were made in the USA, look at all the problems coming out of China, worker abuse, theft of intellectual property and corruption, why deal with China, is it the market they want to deal with, I guess money is money, corporations have always said, to make things better in China is to invest there, I have always taken corporation statements as a pile of crap, so what is China doing with all that money, their building a communist war machine funded by the rest of the world, I say to Apple, bring it back home.

yea but then we get a whole new set of issues. workers drinking and smoking pot during lunch. Would mean Ipad's with little iphone screens stuffed in them. A 13" macbook air with an 11" lid. An iMac mounted upside down on the stand :D

They would have to make realistic profits if they manufactured their products in the USA. I love Apple, but I'm not paying $100.00 *more* for an iPad, when there are some really nice alternatives. And I'm not paying hundreds more for my new MacBook Pro. And if I did, I wouldn't be buying them every (other) year, that's for sure. Apple couldn't add 24% to their prices and have to compete with all the other great products, which *also* come from China.

Side by side, you'd see, $249.99, $299.99, $349.99, $599.00... guess which one you aren't buying?

The people buying the iPad 3 will outnumber the folks buying the cheaper tablets. No question there.

As others have posted, this should, and hopefully will, motivate Apple to accelerate moving production of their products to partners in Mexico, South America, and other, more appreciative, parts of the world.

China needs to be taught what the word "customer" really means. Theirs is a pseudo-capitalism, totalitarian society interpretation, one wherein manipulating the so-called "legal system" is just one more way to try to hold a person or entity hostage.

This is a message, not from Proview, but from the PRC. China is quite upset that Apple is starting to use factories not located in China. The PRC is sending a message, "Don't make stuff in other countries or we will destroy you."

The problem is, it will take around 10 years to develop the needed manufacturing capability in India and South America. You can't quietly develop manufacturing capability.

What I find strangest about this is, Foxconn is a Chinese company. I think there may be some kind of inner struggle taking place at the top of Chinese leadership.

RE: America does not have the manufacturing engineers to build stuff at that volume. Europe does. Time to flood the market with lots of H1B visas with a path to a quick Green Card.

This is nothing. There are no problems that can't be solved without a liberal application of money. With the possible exception of P versus NP. Throw some money at these dudes and move on.

How would you feel if Apple stole one of your trademarks?

Apple Corp.

You can buy a Macbook Pro every single year for the student discount and then sell it the following year for the same price. Every single year a new computer for free. worst case scenario you pay $100 per year.

Show me one of your other products that hold value like that? you are so short sighted trying to save $100.

China is like Russia. It is run by mafia-type families.

We have the Samsung family. The family that own Foxconn etc.

This isn't between Apple and Proview. This is a war between Samsung and Apple using Proview as the proxy.
These "families" will fight to the death to maintain their twisted view of honor and we have been watching it go down live for about two years now.
It seems like it's coming to a head.

The VP of China is visiting the President this week and I'm guessing this family feud will come up in conversation at some point.

This could become more serious than people here think. Apple can't afford to simply stop sales of iPads.

I hope that you are joking...

Samsung=Korean
Foxconn=Taiwanese
Proview is not Korean either.

Just say you were joking to avoid looking silly. And it's not about honor, it's about money, the same thing Apple is after.

Oh just in case you do not know.

South Korea /= China /= Taiwan

Ludicrous! How many trademarks are infringed upon by China's grey and black markets? If they're going to crack down on Apple, maybe they should also crack down on the thriving markets selling knockoff products within that country too! I hope this comes back to bite them in the end.

Do you realize what it takes to "switch production" to another country ?

About 2-5 years. And what is Apple to do in the meantime ?

In wartime the British and Germans could switch production in weeks, so it can be done, it's just a question of will.

Both have factories in China.

And I never said it was about honor. I said the Chinese had a twisted view of honor. And contrary to your corporate view this is not just about money.

Another reason to manufacture in the USA. Yes, I know and understand the arguments, but $80+ Billion goes along way to making it happen.

I agree. Want to turn around the recent negative publicity concerning working conditions in China? Break ground for a massive new production facility on home soil and make a big deal of it. Then let them come to you begging for your business.

... seriously? Proview, a proxy of Samsung? Foxconn run by Samsung family? Stop ridiculing yourself.

Oh wait, Nike has a factory in China, also part of Samsung family?

I really thought you were joking.
