How do you know which 'generation' your PS3 is? I bought a 40GB model a few weeks ago (would have gone for larger, but it was the only one in store and I was in need of a gaming fix).

Would like to play some PS2 games, gave my old console away some time ago to get rid of clutter.

There should be a manufacturing date on the PS3 or in the manual. I don't think any 40Gig models are BC...sorry man you'll have to re-purchase the PS2.

If you are unsure of what I say then just stick the PS2 disc in there and see if it reads it.

Bless

You can get a fat PS2 for like $35, your newer 40GB model is strongly unlikely to play PS2 games. The wiki compatibility chart says you're screwed on that front. Alot of PS2 games looked crappy in the PS3 though, and if you want to be killing dudes in God of War or grinding rails in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 Looks Just Like The One We Put Out Last Year, Thanks For The Money Noobs Edition, that fat PS2 is where its at. Or the skinny one, but I've never heard great things about that one...

Aw, pity. Thanks for the info guys!

I think I'll give the PS2 games a miss so - I've already had to remove the Wii as I'm running out of space (and patience) behind/under my TV, so I don't think sticking another box in there is worth it.

There's spider cables that let you hook wii, 360, and ps2/ps3 all up to one component input, and they don't suck anymore. They're about $14 at gamertown.
