For it to work, you have to delete the app from the permission list and re-add it.Well that's all less than great... I really like Bartender but this is weird and concerning given the permissions it seems to need.
I ran the most recent update and it hasn't been able to run since - I keep getting the permissions request despite having given it permissions, restarted, etc. I was going to run the plist/terminal fix on their site but now... maybe I'll wait a bit until some transparency happens.
Yes, agreed. If Apple did buy Bartender, I don't think they'd be so cagey about it. As an example, think about the acquisition of Dark Sky. Apple was pretty clear that they bought the app, and that they did so to improve their own Weather app.
Yep, built in defaults command in terminal...Is there an app alternative to just shrink the space between the menu bar icons?
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain NSStatusItemSpacing -int 8
I love BTT - probably the most versatile tool I've ever used in my entire IT career. Long time user of it, but I've always been nervous of BTT getting Sherlocked as well since it does so much.If you use BetterTouchTool, there's an action to "Show/Hide Menu Bar Icons left of BTT icon".
Honestly, BTT does so much, it's an incredible tool. Just stopped using Alt-Tab because a similar-enough function is included with BTT.
Amazing, thanks so much!!Yep, built in defaults command in terminal...
For me setting it to 8 is enough, but you can still go with less. It requires logging out and in again!Code:defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain NSStatusItemSpacing -int 8
It's a general problem with any software or website. Something to keep an eye on. I don't know of any general way to avoid this as a risk except to just never use third party software (and websites) but that is pretty limiting. This seems to be a repeating story for macOS and iOS, you get really comfortable with an app and the developer is promising not to sell your information and to maintain privacy and the next thing you know it’s sold and under new ownership and the new developer doesn’t adhere to any of the previous owners promises.![]()
the screen recording permission is sus. have disabled the app for now
The menu bar hasn’t largely changed in that time either?Looks interesting but hasn’t been updated in the App Store for 3 years?
Wait, do you think Apple bought it or something? What makes you think it will be sherlocked now? It's not like its a new app.I am glad I didn't purchase the lifetime license. I still like Bartender 5, but I suspect the app will be eventually Sherlocked.

Then add the other en********ation of forced arbitration, EULA roofies, similar rugpulls, AI and SEO manipulation, sponsored content, forever renting your data…It's a general problem with any software or website. Something to keep an eye on. I don't know of any general way to avoid this as a risk except to just never use third party software (and websites) but that is pretty limiting.
I just revered to the previous update.I salute the Bartender of years past as I hoist its carcass out into the sea.

Apple should just make this part of the OS. It's ridiculous that a tool is needed to manage this.
