Well, to be fair OLED is worth waiting for (unless you have the mini-led 12,9" iPad Pro).

So I don't think those sarcastic "there's always something new next year, buy now if you need it" comments are as valid this time. Don't be jealous if there's something substantial coming up while you were planning to hold on to your old devices with their - let's face it - inferior LCD screens.

Honestly? Oleg is not interesting to me, I had the minileds 12 noe on the M2 11 the regular screen.

Canno care much about that and it didn’t stop me on getting a new iPad now,

Oled might be a killer feature for some, but it’s not for everyone,

Doing actual coding and having workflows is a PITA on i(Pad)OS. The hardware can do it all
but the software just says no.

I just bought a 12.9” 5th generation 128GB WiFi and I couldn’t be happier with it. Love the screen and for my use case, being able to plug in a USB C dock and use it with my external keyboard, mouse and display is a deal-clincher.

I got it as an as-new item from an Apple-authorised dealer with 10 months AppleCare (and still within the window to extend this) and 100% battery health for £626 GBP inc. VAT/sales tax. At that price, I was happy to bite rather than wait for next year’s models.

First time poster, very long time scroller (circa 2005). I bring that up because I am well in tuned with Apple’s ever evolving product line. However, with the iPad Pro M2 11-inch. I knew that I had to upgrade now. I am talk 2 weeks ago. I upgraded from a 2018 (gen 1) iPad Pro. I needed more as in storage, 5G, external AV support, center stage, hover. I also knew I need the 2022 model, as my hutch is seeming to be connect, with a reformed 2024 iPad Pro. The rather expensive accessories will most likely not be compatible. So the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil would be an additional expense. I must say that these accessories are beyond important in my daily usage.

Don’t by if your not hanging on to something older, but between my trade in value, education discount, back to school promo, I’m set for years all while knowing was coming head.

Basically, iPad Pro, iPad mini, and iPad Air refreshes are coming in 2024, so if you can hold off on buying a new tablet, you should.
This is the case with almost all Apple products...

Frankly except for niche uses, I’d recommend against buying an iPad in general.

Poor value and functionality. Unless you’re looking for a solid e-reader or something to draw on, you may as well spring for one of the MacBook airs.
Have you ever heard of... writing?

Here’s what I want: more than 64 GB storage without insane upcharges. iPad 10 would be fine for me, but the next level up is 256 GB at a crazy upcharge. Same with iPad Air. Want just 128 GB? Then you have to go Pro even though my needs are much more basic: video chat, some games, and recording some videos. Plus the extra space helps with some future proofing.

Github codespace in a browser. Or your own vscode server. I went this way because of the horrible upgrade prices on mac. Or jupyterlab if it suits you. I use my macbook air this way for a while now, and with stage manager probably would work on ipad too. And since I mostly work at my desk anyway, I could replace the Macbook Air+iPad with an iPad Air + Mac Mini for less, and finally go back to having dual monitors.

You do raise a very valid point.

Right now, one advantage of upgrading from the 2018 iPad Pro to the M2 iPad Pro is that your accessories (the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard) remain compatible with it. We don't know if the next iPad Pro will get a redesign, or whether it will necessitate getting new accessories to go along with it, or how much of a price hike it might have for that OLED display (assuming the 11" model gets it as well).

So hold off for about 6 months because new ones will be coming out. But if you can wait that long, just wait an extra 12 months and chances are new ones will be coming out. But just wait another 12 months and they will be bringing out new ones. So look to 2026 to buy a new iPad.

Then again, if you can wait a little longer...

I do a lot of media consumptions, but also a lot of productivity thing.

Affinity for me is the go to app, and with Da Vinci and Luma fusion i take care of my video needs.
For reading books I would pick a kindle over an iPad any day of the week.

Can’t beat Eink for reading.

Just bought a Magic Keyboard, and boy it’s a game changer for me, i can do typing stuff now as well when needed, and when i want to I can use it as a tablet.

The iPad can be both a media consumption and a creation tool.

Sure the mini would be on the small size for doing actual work, this is why I went Pro 11 and external monitor when needed.
my mini is 5g so I can take it with me as a computer for travel. It also fits in a Peak Design Tech Pouch which goes on my belt like a man purse. I do have a kindle oasis and enjoy using it but what I like about the iPad is being able to use pencil to highlight book notes in different colors (faster process than kindle) and then having them instantly be available on my Mac. you can hold mini in bed with one hand.

wouldn't you want a bigger iPad for davinchi? sounds like a cramped workflow

Not really, i can simply use an external monitor when i need Da Vinci, but don’t have to carry it around for when i do’t.

I have the Kindle Scribe for the pen issue, sure a faster refresh for pages would help a lot, but it is pretty good for what i need it to.

These new iPads may not be here until March, or May, or June, according to the rumors. So telling people to wait at least seven months, or possibly nine months, is ridiculous. If people want new iPads, they should buy now, unless these new RUMORED features are that important to them.
