So Apple we need Craig out in front of a group of reporters with a full throated apology and promise to never let this happen again. I also want to know what new levels of auditing they are going to do. This is beyond unacceptable. I use OS X in large part to the security and ease of use of said security. I am worked up due to the fact they used to not have these sort of issues.
Companies barely do anything like that when actual private sensitive data is compromised for millions and millions of people, and suddenly there's some expectation of somenting like that when a security issue that hasn't really resulted in much and has been patched relatively quickly?

how much worse can High Sierra get?
27 pages of people with this issue.

I've noted it as well and it is quite serious. I setup a new Mac Pro and updated it to High Sierra. It crashed constantly. Got a replacement unit from the vendor. It came with High Sierra already installed and does the exact same thing. It seems to be exacerbated if you have numerous windows open and multiple high resolution displays.

There was a reason why Steve Jobs gave up on the yearly OS X updates. It forced shoddy releases. They need to go back to releasing OS X version when they are ready. Not to hit a yearly mark. The best OS is one you don't even notice is there.

Well, we”re here.. Apple has officially become Microsoft and if this shoddy software contines I might have to find another OS....I hear Windows is pretty stable these days
It's almost as if there weren't security issues before or issues like accounts being deleted or something else of that sort in previous OS X versions. Almost.

This is not some Techie, nerdy geeky thing

The imagery is there, broadcast to millions on TV etc

Almost anyone over the age of 5 understands what a blank password means regardless of it being fixed or patched quickly

This will be rinsed and repeated 1.09379768723^93 every time someone over exaggerates :D Apple security

It's daft beyond belief once let alone twice

I've been happily humming along with my 2015 MacBook Pro on El Capitan... but we just ordered a new 2017 iMac, and unfortunately that'll mean we'll have no choice but High Sierra with that machine.

I'm somewhat dreading it. I had Sierra on my MBP - twice - and ended up rolling back to El Capitan - twice. I thought High Sierra was supposed to be a bug fix and stability release for Sierra; but somehow it sounds like an even bigger turd.

People always talk about the need to keep macOS up to date but sometimes I begin to wonder.... is an older version of OS X with an up to date browser actually more secure!!! o_O;)

Actually... unlike iOS, Apple keeps the last three major versions of OS X / macOS supplied with security patches. So if you're happy on a recent version of the OS, there's not really a compelling reason to upgrade.

My MacBook Pro is on El Capitan and it'll stay there until the next version of macOS is released... since at that point the security patches for El Capitan will stop coming.

Windows 10 had 19 privilege escalation issues this year and 82 last year. Good luck with that

Sadly I find Windows 10 to be pretty rock solid and bug free compared to the mess called High Sierra. Who would’ve ever thought they would switch places when it’s comes to “it just works”? I certainly didn’t think so.

“Windows 10 to be pretty rock solid and bug free”.

Yeah, not really. Ignorance is bliss though I guess.

Oh, it can get worse.

Applying the security patches has made Safari and Spotlight completely unusable for me now. I get constant crashes, and I can't figure out how to solve this.

High Sierra is a POS.

Ok, glad it's not just me. Mine automatically updated twice (shows an update on 11/29 and one on 11/30). Rebooted my computer tonight and safari & spotlight are completely crashed.

I don't excuse Apple for this one, but I have a hard time getting worked up over it. This bug brings the current version of MacOS (unpatched) to the level of Windows without UAC enabled, which is basically the norm. After that, I really don't intend to allow others physical access to my systems to exploit this. Seriously, we can stop the arm waving
Problems is Windows isn't claiming to be more secure than macOS.

This is a circus show! I'm not impressed that the patch disables the root user. It's not difficult to re-enable, but it surely doesn't seem like the 'Apple way' to mess with people's computer setups.

I am also on the El Cap team. Sierra was a mess and High Sierra is even worse, and also even worse than Yosemite and Lion combined. I am not even talking about iOS 11. I use a MBA 2015 on the go but for work, I am using a Snow Leopard MBPnr 2011 (SSD-powered, of course) with the grandfathered last version of Chrome which is the most stable OS I have ever used, and in many ways also the fastest.
Apple keeps saying "always stay up to date" but no one at their circular campus seems to be actually using those products.

Wow, this does not inspire confidence to say the least. To follow up one of the most severe bugs you can have with a botched and confusing update path is really unbelievable...

It just works:

After applying patch, then a patch to fix the patch’s issues.

Then go .1, rinse and repeat

Just in case it doesnt you can run some terminal commands

Weeee

I don't think the terminal commands actually fix all the issues.
So... it just doesn't work. No matter how hard you try.

Just rename it to MacOS vista...... Though at this rate might be MacOS Me

Love this apologetic chestnut. It's okay everyone - apple can screw up all they want - cause something, somewhere at sometime also happened......and it was bad. Gold ! It's getting a little predictable .....

Love your low standards..... Perfect loyal customer . Precedent set before....lets keep the bar low

Now also macOS is being hit with a ridiculous high number of bugs. Maybe they should have stick with the OS X branding. xOS seems to be a bad omen
