Jesus, please people. It's time for petition to Apple HQ: Please bring back Mac OS department.
This is from 2016:

In another sign that the company has prioritized the iPhone, Apple re-organized its software engineering department so there's no longer a dedicated Mac operating system team. There is now just one team, and most of the engineers are iOS first, giving the people working on the iPhone and iPad more power.
So the last usable Mac OS is Sierra, that's why they removed it from App Store. Nice.
Lucky for me that i have it on Restore:))
Only one year without dedicated Mac Os team and this is the result. Go make some cars Apple:)

Windows 10 had 19 privilege escalation issues this year and 82 last year. Good luck with that

“Windows 10 to be pretty rock solid and bug free”.

Yeah, not really. Ignorance is bliss though I guess.

Comparing it with macos, it looks like MS is doing right while Apple is doing....? not even sure what they are planning... to break the records on every year?

I have a feeling Apple engineers were high when they wrote this MacOS release.

So many major errors in such a short time. Disgraceful.

Apple needs to implement a 30 day freeze on new features and to go back and audit/test every line of code.

Ok, glad it's not just me. Mine automatically updated twice (shows an update on 11/29 and one on 11/30). Rebooted my computer tonight and safari & spotlight are completely crashed.

Yeah, I had two updates installed also. The good news, though, is that the problem seems to fix itself. I booted my MacBook from a complete power off this morning, and Spotlight and Safari are back to normal. It took numerous reboots and restarts to arrive at this, but this computer is operating OK for now.

But it doesn't change my mind that High Sierra is a POS.

Ok it says you have to re-install the patch but how?

Find me a piece of software without bugs and I'll buy you the Brooklyn Bridge.

Every year with every release the same old - worst piece of software ever - I stay on the old release - of course forgetting all the security issues in that software. Because very smart people spend their entire life's looking for bugs doesn't mean there are more than used to.

Should it come as any surprise that the MacOS portion of Apple is having such issues, it's about #7 in priority at Apple. Mac Mini and Mac Pro are about #11 in priority.

Can't WAIT to see all the examples of throttling with the iMac PRO - Because "Apple knows better than U", in avoiding a user serviceable tower design instead. Apple can't give up all that sweet sweet action($$$) when it comes to upgrades.

Just rename it to MacOS vista...... Though at this rate might be MacOS Me

Love this apologetic chestnut. It's okay everyone - apple can screw up all they want - cause something, somewhere at sometime also happened......and it was bad. Gold ! It's getting a little predictable .....

Love your low standards..... Perfect loyal customer . Precedent set before....lets keep the bar low
Reality can be hard to face sometimes. I understand.

Wow that makes sense. No dedicated team equals garbage.

I'm done. Yesterday I downgraded to Sierra (I kept the installer). I am skipping High Sierra altogether. Every time I have installed it I have had one issue after another. Crashing applications, slow processes, and all around instability. Get it right next time Apple. This the second time (first being Lion) that I did not upgrade from a previous OS.

This is chaotic stupidity.

I may downgrade as well. My mom still has Sierra on her laptop because I didn't want to screw everything up on her computer and it works great.

The patch is annoying (it applied automatically for me during today's 10.13.2 beta).

What I think it should do is:
  1. If root is disabled then fix bug so root isn't enabled when login attempted
  2. If root is enabled and password is null then disable root and do (1)
What it seems to do is:
  1. Disable root and fix bug so root isn't enabled when login attempted
The difference, for me, is that I use the root user and each time this patch applies itself I have to re-enable the root user, reset the password and reset the shell (as I want bash not sh).

Surprised at the panic this issue must have caused at Apple. Maybe they were trying to code on their mobiles which all stopped working at 12:15 today :)

EDIT: Re-enabling the root user made "System Administrator" show up as a valid login user when I boot. Irritating, as I never had that before and don't want something so inviting to hack on bootup. Took me a while to work out what was going on but the fix is to remove root from being able to unlock filevault. Apple decided not to allow that in the system prefs screen so "fdesetup remove -user root" in terminal it was.

This is even worse than the original bug itself. How could they possibly forget to change 10.13.1 and include the fix?

I just tried it and 10.13.1 did not reintroduce this problem for me. Previously I changed root's password to something I made up, installed Apple's security fix, then updated to 10.13.1. Root login is not wide open. Not sure if this is just a small number of people effected by this, but working as normal here. 2017 27" 5k iMac

The problem only happens if you're starting from 10.13, update to 10.13.1 and restart, then install the security update without restarting.
For those users, Apple now has a fix in place so it should take care of itself even if the computer isn't restarted.

Update BREAKS add to Photo Share with the Preview App. Tried this on my late 2013 iMac purchased on 2015 and my new MacBook Air 2017 model. This is a mess of a hack from Apple.

we need to call an exterminator because iOS 11 and high Sierra are full of bugs
our lovely apple is gone with the wind
this one after the other, totally unacceptable, no more quality control
all Tim care about is money
please go away and fast
you are destroying what Steve build
[doublepost=1512259288][/doublepost]
Can 2017 be over already horrible software year
just wait until the Christmas party and you won't believe how they will start 2018, I bet you January will be worse, if this what we get when they are sober just imagen after the hang over
[doublepost=1512259401][/doublepost]
For a while I have been irritated at Apple, but their incompetence has reached a point that I am beginning to be impressed.
is starting to feel like Microsoft Windows
[doublepost=1512259527][/doublepost]
So Apple we need Craig out in front of a group of reporters with a full throated apology and promise to never let this happen again. I also want to know what new levels of auditing they are going to do. This is beyond unacceptable. I use OS X in large part to the security and ease of use of said security. I am worked up due to the fact they used to not have these sort of issues.
I used to admire him but when I saw that he did like a chicken I totally lost all respect and admiration that I had for him, just plain ridiculous, their are wasting their time with emoji and all sort of nonsense

Glad I stayed on Sierra right now...
I started having regrets , I think what I'm going to do from now on is wait until the new system reach .6 before moving to that new system and always stay in the last more stable system until the new one has mature enough
I'm thinking maybe I should go back to Sierra 10.12.6 and stay there until high Sierra reach 10.13.6 then stay there until the next one reach .6 , I think is the smartest thing to do, apple is moving too fast and screwing things up, maybe I should stay behind a little, it sound like going from w10 back to w7 right, these software companies are killing us

Sadly I find Windows 10 to be pretty rock solid and bug free compared to the mess called High Sierra. Who would’ve ever thought they would switch places when it’s comes to “it just works”? I certainly didn’t think so.
microsoft is not making windows better than high Sierra
apple is making high Sierra worse than windows
[doublepost=1512260879][/doublepost]
Wow that makes sense. No dedicated team equals garbage.
and in the mean time still no Mac Pro , last model 2013
Tim said we don't sell that many Macs, don't waste time and money keep working on the iPhone, iPads, watches, crackpots sorry air pods etc
apple is no longer a computer company , is just a mobile device company
you can make a new Mac Pro just don't make a million of them
you know you are not going to sell them all unless you put a very nice and affordable price and we know is not going to happen, I bet the next Mac Pro will be 5,000 dollars, no problem as long it has new technology and not outdated component from 2010

the funny thing is the ones that have an Nvidia card in their system and every little update changes the system version so the web driver no longer works then you need to wait for web drivers, yes web drivers are out but wait apple just released another update, actually is the same update, fixing what we already fixed and also what we mess up then we change the system version again just wait for the web drivers once again, the never ending story, stupidity beyond belief
they really need to make changes, but I think they don't care because if they do then this would not happen
I'm currently waiting for a new CEO, Tim has to go, we need new people with new ideas
this people lost their passion and they are just there for the money

I ignore the updates for some time now. Sierra scares me. I'm okay with Yosemite for now until things have to change.
