I’ve had to deal with this. Here’s how you get around it.

You HAVE to go to retail store. Make sure the store you go to has the right size/band in stock otherwise you’ll waste a lot of time for no reason.

Tell the Apple Employee to process a “No receipt return” and process it as an exchange to the band you want.

They will need a manager override but as long as you don’t have a difficult employee/manager, it will be done.
For many, the stores are closed where they live. Thanks for the post, though.

I think Apple will modify their policy very soon.

This PSA is likely incorrect. I was able to swap my bands twice without having to exchange the Apple Watch and braided solo loop.

Unless it’s a regional thing, this doesn’t apply in Canada. I even asked several Apple employees and they told me they can just swap the bands prior to my purchase.

I’ve spoken to people online and they said they were able to swap just the bands too.

This restriction could also be specific to the aluminum sport models.

"Customers who chose a Solo Loop or a Braided Solo Loop along with an Apple Watch Series 6 or SE and have a poor fit can't just return the band for a new size -- the entire Apple Watch has to be returned since it's considered a set.

i suppose it's no different to getting a t-shirt

Multiple anecdotes from Apple's support staff in the U.S. So maybe different in other countries, but not allowed for mail-in returns here.

In the U.S. what MR posted is accurate, even if some Apple employees have made exceptions to the policy for some individuals.

They didn’t make exceptions, they said they could change it.

Plus, when they were getting my purchase ready I heard them mention that they were packing my watch band.

When I opened the bundle, the watch band had a Canadian retail sticker on it. Which is weird, I would’ve assumed it would be bundled already at the factory.

Anyway, it’s allowed in stores where I live, I doubt it’s allowed online.

A trillion dollar company with a system incapable of allowing the watch band to be exchanged separately. All of those returns will have to be cleaned and refurbished and will be sold as a refurbished watch in a white box along with a brand new charging cable. What a lot of wasted packing material, shipping, and cables. eNvIoRmEnTaLy fRiEnDLy (my ass- Phill Schiller)

The second I saw this band in the keynote I knew right away this was going to be trouble. Avoided it like the plague.
1. I said there is no way a paper cut out is going to be accurate and a ton of people are going to be pissed when it
Comes leading to so many customer complaints and issues.

2. It’s a pretty dumb design as you can’t lay it flat on your night stand at night and only way to do it is leave it on its side and there is NOTHING worse than that alarm clock screen turn on 5 min before your alarm goes off to annoy you in the am.

Just a thought. If you purchase the watch and only the watch without any bands, then purchase the band separately, but at the same time as the watch, that you get two separate orders shipped at the same time, then all you have to do if the band didn’t fit, you just send back the band and not the watch. Does that make sense to you guys?

Last year I was able to swap out my band (bought with my S5 watch) in person at an Apple store with no issue. I believe that they had to process it as a return of the entire watch, but in reality, the watch never left my hand; they just took the old band and gave me the new one.
Funny. Last year I actually HAD to return the whole watch and they went in back and brought out another. Fortunately, it was an in store pick up so my box wasn’t opened yet.

I went to my local apple store today to swap out my single loop band...

Yeah, like it says in the article, some retail stores are allowing this, but not all retail stores are open and some people may not be able to go to a store for a swap for health reasons.
