Like the old adage says, if the product/service is free then YOU are the product, or something like that. I'm honestly surprised they lasted this long without selling more of their customer's information. Reddit has impacted the internet so much I have a feeling Google will be buying them soon for a few billion, after all much of this is about them propping themselves up for their IPO. Does anyone just search Google anymore? I think many of us search Google with a Reddit append to get more relevant results. Google searches have become this odd compendium of "self help" webpages which don't really help much and just advertise products/services or harvest data. At least with Reddit I know I'm getting real people who might be able to resolve my problem or answer my search, or at the very least engage in discussion.

PS what ever happened to the massive crash and burn of Reddit after them pulling their API? They seem to be doing just fine.

as of yesterday I was able to opt out (I think) via https://www.reddit.com/personalization but I'm not sure if that's changed

The reddit app is soo bad. Everything has too small tap targets, it's literally the only app I occasionally use that I mis-tap things. Animations are incredibly slow, you are better off scrolling past comments than trying to collapse a comment chain. And I just get such random junk on my home feed. Reddit died with Apollo, I used to use it every day..now it is maybe once a week, if that.

It's a bit annoying, but you can sideload the Apollo .ipa to your phone without jailbreaking. You can either get an Apple Dev License or resign it once a week.

I already block ads on my computer and I just tried using Safari to browse Reddit and my adblocker on my iPhone is also blocking the ads. That's how I'll continue using Reddit.

Ah well, my ad-blockers works just as good on Reddit as it does everywhere else.
So I haven't even noticed it.

I was just saying that at the time I posted that that the setting could still be changed, not sure if changing it before they remove the page will have any effect

If you say anything non leftist, the moderator suspends or bans you for hate speech. What a crapshoot.

So it's just the inverse of /r/conservative. Where if you say anything not pro-Trump, you get banned. Many, many subreddits operate that way. I was banned from at least four of them for apparently saying the wrong things.
