I was contemplating upgrading but now I think I’ll keep this for the next few years
That's good to hear! I have been holding off updating because of bad prior experiences with updates plus I use iTunes (not the Music App) and use some legacy software but this new security risk is making me reconsider. I have 40 GB ram.

I'm updating my iPad and iPhone but I will probably be keeping my iMac on Mojave because of legacy software that I need. Any idea if apple has/will release a security fix for Mojave and does this even affect Mojave?
It almost certainly does, and no they won’t. It’s unsupported.

Best to keep that machine off the internet to keep running your legacy software, and use a newer machine with the latest updates for online usage.

That’s the unfortunate reality of how Apple supports older OSes.

I’m considering ditching Safari too,it has become more and more sluggish and now days never as reliable as other browsers.
The only issue making me not switch is the passwords and keychains.
I was able to pretty easily transfer all of that to Edge, I was worried about the same thing.

I like Edge, but I still miss Safari, which i would have still used had it not gotten, like you said, SO sluggish on my fleet of M1s.

It’s apple responsibility to keep things update & secure from older iOS/Mac OS to present version.

To keep things safe as possible, don’t try to force people buy new hardware even they can’t afford it.

Life is tough for many users around the world, Apple become trend & the price keep increasing from time to time that’s the problems.

And if our devices are so old that they can't reach those OS versions, we're supposed to just not use them anymore, right? It sounds like a sarcastic question, but is that actually, in the grand scheme of security, what we're supposed to be doing?
You have to buy a new device. Computer tech has a limited life span. Iphones in particular, imo are about 10 years starting from the iPhone 5s.

Even if you had an old flip phone that was able to be turned on, the cellular standards have changed making the flip phone not useable as a phone.

Even software goes out of support. Windows xp, windows 7, and soon windows 8.1. And yes, one can upgrade their windows o/s assuming proper licenses and hardware.

Apple should let users known what version of the software contains the issue - Just like automobile recalls. We never hear “Toyotas are being recalled“, and then it’s left up to the customers to guess which year and model.

It really feels like the decision to control information is impeding security. I fear that if the software companies don’t do something they will be regulated.

I've just updated from Mojave to Catalina only due to wanting to run a specific software that wouldn't run on the older OS.
I have no intention of updating further at this time, or should I? They keep ramming Monterey down my throat, maybe I should just bite the bullet and go to the latest? At 83 I HATE change!

We're talking about macOS Mojave here, not OS X Tiger...
I was using Safari on Mojave today…

I’m considering uploading to Monterey (even if I don’t like that system and it screwed up software support) but it’s a really stupid move on Apple’s part not to release a safari security update for Mojave.

Safari is sluggish even on iPhone 13 Pro Max,Edge,Firefox,Opera and even Chrome (which is known for being resource and memory hungry) are noticeably faster and much more reliable.

How did you transfer your saved passwords from Safari to Edge?

Mojave's last security update was over a year ago. Safari 15 doesn't even run on Mojave. You've been browsing with known exploits for a while now.
Doesn’t matter, it’s still out of support. I doubt many exploits are targeting Tiger these days. They will try to target the newest non-patched OS that the most amount of people will be using.
Yes, but it's not anywhere close to "don't ever use it when connected to Internet" status as yet, especially if using Chrome or Firefox. Also, keep in mind that today's CVE bulletin discusses yesterday's exploit(s), which is why the first rule is to always be careful, even when using the latest whatever. Think about it this way: this exploit was likely discovered/used on an "updated" machine.

I sometimes wonder if these "Security Flaws" are made to force everyone to upgrade to the latest OS. Early iOS saturation looks good on Apple in contrast to Android.

This is not at all surprising, I had actually been wondering why it was so quiet in terms of exploits, no doubt there are hackers globally working around the clock on iOS/iPadOS and MacOS exploits as these devices are popular with A LOT of high profile people in governments, media houses, celebrities, blue chip companies etc… Across the globe.

This is an ongoing cat and mouse game, what is important is how quickly Apple patch the exploit, cybersecurity is a huge issue and a fast reaction and some proactive measures that can lessen the impact are needed to be in place.

No, they are not any sort of embarrassment to apple, any more than any other vulnerability is a major embarrassment to the vendor.
You are wrong. For some reason this particular vulnerability has been hitting the headlines big time in UK newspapers over the past couple of days. Online comments for those papers are full of people saying the best way to protect yourself is to buy a Samsung phone. They are, of course, ill-informed.

Here in the US zip, nada, nothing. The cat and mouse for vulnerabilities is nothing anybody raises an eyebrow about anymore.

Apple may lose 3 sales in the UK if that —- imo.

I don’t normally read US newspapers. But I just picked a couple at random: CNN and USA Today. And there the story is. Apple sell millions of devices in the UK. I suspect that rather more than 3 people will be affected by the negative press.

I doubt it. Not saying these zero days aren’t newsworthy, it’s about the remediation. I suspect very few blink an eye and apple imo probably isn’t embarrassed.
