Did my upgrade to my first-gen Apple watch this afternoon -- starting around 2:00 PM EST -- and although it did take rather a long time it looks as though all went well and my watch was definitely not bricked. If Apple pulled the update it must've been after I had already begun and gone through the process.....? If I had seen these posts on MR prior to starting I would have not done the update, that is for sure!

So if it has been pulled I'm hoping Apple will publish something to let us know what happened and when we can expect to 'trust' them again. If anyone notices 3.1.1 is back up can you let us all know, thanks.

Decided to just do a walk in appointment at the Apple Store since it's near me. The guy who helped me said this was the 3rd one brought in today like this.

He was apologetic, but nothing he could do. Said they don't have the diagnosis tool in stores to reset it. So had to send it out. 3-5 days to get it back.
They also did not have my version in stock.

So guess I'll be arm naked for a few days.

I would recommend going to a store if possible. Quicker than waiting for them to send a shipping box and quicker than waiting for a scheduled appointment. Especially with Xmas approaching.

Yup.. looks like it has been pulled.

It was nice though today to be accused multiple times by Apple on the phone and in person that this never happens and that I must have caused it to fail.

I did my S2 last night at 10pm. Took what seemed like forever....maybe 30-40 min but finished with no issues.

Says 3.1.1 (14S883)

Glad mine didn't brick....would hate to be without for any period of time.

My S2 also updated OK. Never used the betas for this one. Wonder if that was a factor

Yesterday I updated my iPhone 7 Plus, and iPad Air II. But, it was too late at night to update my Apple Watch Series II, Stainless Steel Space Black.

Went to do so a moment ago, no noticed there wasn't an update A quick search on Google, and boom, I'm here.

Hopefully Apple fixes this soon...

All fine here, update took me about 45 mins all up I think. Space grey series 2 if that makes any difference.

I really should wait in future though, one day I'm going to get burnt by something like this. Very disappointing specially at this time of year when replacement will probably take longer than it otherwise should. Hope you all get your new watches soon.

Always a good idea to wait a bit before installing a new update so other people can ruin their devices first. :)

I returned my Apple Watch... Thanks to Best Buy extended Holiday Return Exchange dates.

Darn...seeing this kinda goes two ways. I could have bricked my first gen SS and then got a replacement under Applecare+. Probably would have been a refurb, but I would think they would clean them up nicely.

I'm going to wait out the update. Glad I saw this thread. I never do updates early on anyways.
It's a shame to have to have a thought to purchase AC because you think their products are not up to par. There have been a lot of updates that have bricked iPhones, and maybe even a previous update on a Watch.

--Becareful with Best Buy as they haven't updated their return policy but the keep track of how many returns you did and they can deny you.

A lot of stores track your returns. As far as them updating their return policy... it's right on the site:

I'm taking mine back to Best Buy because of the holiday return extended period

Just got to make sure they have more in stock.

I think I will hold off on updating my AW2

X2

Happened to my wife's watch. Super pissed that she has to be without a watch for weeks due to something 100% the fault of Apple. I tried to get them to do express replacement but not an option without AppleCare. Ridiculous that a 2 month old watch is bricked due to Apples software and they don't bend over backwards to resolve it asap.

Agreed.

When I purchase my watch I'll definitely be getting Applecare +!

I didn't. It's a shame to be force to pay extra Cause of a faulty issue to be covered and expedited early on.

Upgrade went fine here. S2 42mm. After reading this thread I will never install in the first week+ anymore.

Me either.

Glad it went well. Best Buy is becoming more strict on their return policy.

I don't need to return too many things. I don't think Target tracks.

Does anybody know how I can stop my watch from updating?

Last night I downloaded the update in my iPhone watch app - but thankfully it could not be installed due to low battery level of my watch... But the update is still waiting for me to charge my watch, so can I cancel that in any way?

Updated my Space Gray 2 with no problems. Put it on it's charger and started the process then went to lunch. Came back an hour later and it was done. But I did not get my AW Gen 0 updated yet so when they release the update I think I will let others give it a try before I update it.

Hey maybe it was all those new emojis :)

I downloaded the install initially but waited to install it later. All I did was close the app and swipe it up so it did not start the update. I went to work and the watch was fine all morning. Before I went to lunch I put it on a charger. The update did not start until I opened the app on my phone and pressed install.

Now how to get rid of the downloaded update on the phone is another issue. You might have to call apple for that information.

I downloaded the update earlier this afternoon, but didn't install it. When I just looked, the "install now" option was there, for a second, then the screen refreshed saying I was on the latest OS. So, even if you download it to the phone, it appears Apple is pulling it.

Just wanted to thank you all for this info. I saw this thread this afternoons before the update was pulled and decided to hold off.

Now that Apple pulled the update I'm glad I did. Just in case.... but I wouldn't have known without the info from you folks who got burned.

Thanks for looking out for the rest of us!

Thanks for the advice, I did as suggested. Let's see what happens when Apple reissues the update...

Ok let's try to find the cause. What i did before update:
- updated Iphone 7 to 10.2
- then on the watch which was not on hand i tapped numbers for password / access to watch face
- putted the watch to power
- started with update and waited till the end of update
- no beta used before no certificates

was anything omitted from your side ?

i would really like to know the cause as it is better to prevent such future failures then just waiting that someone will not have luck and he will be willing to post it on forum

My Garmin Chronos just got updated and works great!

Yep it looks like Apple pulled the update as mine now shows 3.1 and no updates available.

I don't update on day one releases anymore because of huge inconveniences like the latest Watch OS update. Hope your enjoying your new Garmin.
