My replacement arrived yesterday and bricked watch is shipped back to Apple. Watch arrived with 3.0 installed so I had to upgrade to 3.1 which was probably the most uneasy I've ever been during an Apple upgrade. Knowing that if anything goes wrong during this process I could end up with a brick makes me not want to ever upgrade again. 3.1 is stable and provides amazing battery life - I'm definitely going to be waiting a few days from here on out to upgrade my watch.

Is the replacement a refurbished unit?

It's kind of laughable when Apple get to the point where the majority of their updates now brick devices on first release. Even Microsoft never got this bad.

And this is why I have stopped downloading App!e updates the same day they come out. I no longer have any confidence in any update Apple releases for any of their products. If I owned an Apple Watch, I would be extremely pissed.
I do own an Apple Watch, but I didn't upgrade mine. If I had, and it had become bricked, with Apple's BS responses and excuses, I would have gone straight to a lawyer to get legal advice.

Apple, these days, is an absolutely PATHETIC excuse of a company.

Wow nice to hear yours arrived so soon.

I did express replacement on Tuesday as well. Wonder when it'll arrive. I'm in Canada.

Edit: Just received an email from Apple that my replacement has shipped. 2+ days to ship even with express replacement.

My replacement just showed up as well—with 3.0 installed. I unboxed the watch, popped it on the charger to start setting it up, and the first thing I see once it boots up is something along the lines of "this accessory not made for charging this watch." This whole thing really is unnerving!

Ugh, my "express" replacement that was requested on tuesday was set to deliver today. But UPS is showing a delayed flight so it'll likely come next week.

Best of luck to you! I was successful in the 3.1 update (although it took around 50 minutes) and all seems to be going well with this replacement. The original will be heading back today.

So u had a complete new watch in the box with a charger and watch band? im gonna ship mine out tomorrow, got the empty ups box today.

i guess everybody here had a replacement watch instead of getting his or hers repaired?

Was going to ask you guys - the replacement is just the watch, no bands or anything else right?

No, it was just what Apple calls the "Watch Face." No new charger or bands or anything. I opted for the "express replacement" option since I have AppleCare+ and didn't want to risk not having a watch for a couple weeks.

Upon opening the package I received I found three strips of tape, some packaging instructions, and a small white box. Inside the white box is the Watch Face in a white plastic tray, and another little pamphlet. You swap out the good for the bad and put the white box back in the brown shipping box, remove the top layer of the shipping label, and use the tape they provide to seal the box back up. Fairly simple system they have set up.

Nice, that makes sense for a quick replacement.

Man, I do have apple care + and I did initiate an express replacement on Tuesday, but between apple taking several days to ship the replacement, and UPS having a delay today, I'm going to get the replacement on Monday, nearly a full week after my watch was bricked. Not terribly thrilled about being without a watch this whole time.

Received my watch back yesterday. Took a total of 4(long) days from drop off to pickup.

Really makes no sense that the Apple Store doesn't have the diagnosis tool in store. Complete waste of shipping cost for them.

Oh well...glad to have my toy back! I'll never do a software update when it comes out initially again! NEVER!

"A new software is available. Would you like to update now?"

CANCEL!!

Incredible - from drop off to pick up you already have your watch back and 5 days later my 'express replacement' hasn't even arrived.

It's true though. They should have the tools at the store to do restores on watches, if not at least just have supply on hand for warranty replacements, just like iPhones and other devices.

Anyone else without AppleCare send in their watch and get this message?

"Your product arrived at our repair center, but our technicians weren't able to process your repair request. We’re sending the product to you along with a letter that provides more information."

I'm hoping that they just sent back the wrong response and they actually fixed it. How infuriating if not.

I'm thinking maybe the people inputting info on the repair website may not input correctly.

My repair status still shows "diagnosing product". Even though I already received it back.

Hopefully that's the case with yours.

I just received same reply as you. I purchased the watch for my wife a month ago. I don't remember what warranty it includes, but I doubt its out of warranty... In other words, this is not likely an AppleCare issue.

I don't remember if they required an AppleID during the initial support request on their web site, but if they did, I would have used my AppleID rather than my wife's. After all, I did pay for for it, and my AppleID email address is in their purchase records. For what it's worth, I unpaired the watch from her iPhone before sending it in... as per their instructions.

Just an update to this, despite receiving the above e-mail, the watch was returned, restored back to 3.1 and functioning.
