I sadly haven't had a chance to really dig in and play with mine as much as I'd like to yet, but I feel like I've had to use the PIN code far more than I should have. I suppose mainly since I've done a full battery disconnect each time I have used it. (thus a restart each time)....

In other words, absolutely don't forget your Vision Pro headset password. And if you do have to go to the store don't forget to bring your Apple Earbuds Pro with active noise cancellation.

I went to the Apple Store in uptown Albuquerque for a Vision Pro demo today. Not a good experience. There was constant heartbeat thumping loud music playing on top of the noisy din of all the people in there. The whole of the noise took away from the demo - to a significant degree.

Is this to keep thieves from simply resetting a device? Seems like a huge oversight.

So I used to think the external battery was a meme. It's clumsy, yes, and annoying to carry. (I have a Vision Pro)

But an external battery makes sense theoretically for weight, especially since its so important for headsets. It's also a modular component which can easily be replaced if it goes bad. So it's not entirely bad.
The point is that the external battery with its 2-hour battery life can't be hot-swapped. If you disconnect it, the unit shuts off.

Once i say the lightning pro cable connected to the battery I just knew those extra pins were so you could connect a usb c drive or connect the device to a mac to restore, just in case its ever needed.

Maybe a silly question but… Apple recently added support for passkeys on websites, with biometrics why are we still using passcodes/passwords in the first place?
They use biometrics to unlock the passkey. But I find myself continually asked to sign back into Google and prompted to add a passkey when I already did.

Someone can copy your irises. Someone can also copy your passcode. However, while you can switch to a different passcode, you can't switch to different irises. This is why biometrics isn't the ultimate answer for authentication. In addition, biometrics is a process working with approximations, and by its nature it isn't guaranteed to always work reliably.

Besides, you can use a longer alphanumeric passcode (I do).

copy your irises? yeah...save it...a toggle to prefer biometric is welcome

Partially finished prototype, this and no find my functionality. You think for the price they could have include a small battery in the unit.
I think it could have been fun (if a small battery was included), to allow the main battery to be hot swapped, but you have a time limit to do the swap because the internal battery is tiny.

So once disconnected, you could have the tunnel vision effect ratchet up and slowly fade things to black from the outer edges moving to the centre. Sort of like you're losing consciousness haha. Then when you plug in your second battery the darkness disappears.

Apple is positioning the Vision Pro as a head-mounted computer, and it's weird to think of it as being a trusted place for data storage. We trust our computers and phones. Treating the Vision Pro with that same mentality is gonna be an adjustment.

You answered your own question ... "recently". It's going to take time to move everything to Passkeys. And Passkeys exist _within_ the existing authentication schemes.

On a Mac, you need your fingerprint or password to unlock and send a Passkey.

Different beast.

So there is no way to opt out of a passcode and FaceID at the same time? Not everyone want their device secured. You usually only use it at home anyway. I have not even secured my phone. I turn it on and the screen is there without any password, fingerprint or whatever. The same is true with my notebook.
