I can't fathom people not filling up their iPad. I have a 64 GB new iPad and it's almost full.

Apps 4GB - 1GB from GarageBand, 1 or 2GB of textbooks from Inkling, Zinio etc.

Photos - 0GB (stream instead)

Other - 0.6GB

Free - 10GB.

I've owned my share of 32gb and 64gb iPad 2s and aside from filling it up with movies and music I never watched, I found 16GB is more than enough.

I have 64gb on my iPhone 4S however, mostly because I do benefit from putting all my music, photos, and not worrying about taking videos and photos on the camera. The iPad just doesn't get used for those purposes.

I could also stick a few movies on it if for a trip if I really wanted to.

it sounds like you've found a 16gb ipad more than enough because you have a 64gb iphone which allows you to offload some of those storage requirements. as an FYI: the new ipad is voracious on storage space when it comes to storing photos if synced via itunes so those type of users who want to store many photos on their ipads will find this out.

as for the easlier posts by those who chosen to get 3rd party storage - the seagate drive requires USB power and the kingston only has 4 hrs of battery runtime, not to mention that you're entirely reliant on wi-fi to stream the data over to the tablet. all of which is fine if you're doing this from home or a hotel room, but if you're on the go, IMO a bigger inconvenience.

I have 16gb wifi with 8.7gb free. Its fine. Have thought about 3G but I'll prob keep with wifi only.

I USED to keep movies, music and photos on my iPad 1 32gb and my iPhone 32gb but in reality I NEVER watched a movie, looked at photos and rarely played music. I did browse the web, listen to podcasts, read a lot (Instapaper & goodreader), wrote and used alot productivity apps (omnioutliner, taskpaper, pages,, ithoughtshd etc).

16gb is fine. And with free storage - 8gb space on Dropbox, 50gb on Box and 5gb on Sugarsync (all with ipad apps) I have plenty of access to files - albeit over wifi.

Edit - Forgot to mention I also have a Pro Dropmark account which is 25gb online ($24pa offer). I keep a lot of stuff on there. Including home vids, photos, music and files should I really wish to look at something.

I also have Dropbox at around 5GB (I use for work related materials), Skydrive at 25gb, and G-Drive at 5GB. So it's 35gb of data that is more useful sitting in the cloud and auto-synced than sitting local.

On the other hand, 16GB data really becomes restrictive if you own lots of Apps like Garage Band, Textbooks and Magazines.

You don't know how the wireless drive work do you? First off, my Seagate does not require USB it has a battery. Secondly, the wifi hdd's create their own hotspot to stream with. So you don't have to be in a wifi area.

I saved the extra hundred and put it on ac+, it was a great idea since I dropped my iPad on the ground($50 replacement).
As for storage, I have used only 6gb and I have a boatload of apps.
No music, I listen to pandora now and I thought of putting movies/shows on but the hassle, so I got one of them filebroswers (actually 2 now since one of them can't play mkv formats) and there's always netflix.
I just can't wait for a jailbreak on this new iPad, it's just going to make the experience a trillion times better

don't you need to piggyback onto an [outside] wifi signal if you want to use the goflex wifi-passthru mode to browse the internet while you're connected to the goflex?

this would suggest that in certain usage cases involving 3g/lte where no local wifi was available and the user needed to stream data from the golfex to their tablet while needing access to the internet, that they won't be able to?

Yes.true cellular won't work with it. But it does create its own hotspot to access the drive. Correct pass through does only work with wifi.

I'm trying to figure out if there's anything I could possibly need a 32GB for. I estimate my space needs at under 4GB, but I keep wondering if I'm missing something here.

1. I don't watch video on small devices
2. I have a 64GB iPhone for all my audio content
3. I'll probably load a racing game of some sort (Real Racing HD maybe) just to show the A5X off, but I'm not a gamer per se

My main uses will be newspapers/magazines (although some of those can get up there in size), reading stuff, light web, Evernote, recipes, etc.

I'm thinking of going to the 32GB just in case, another $100 on an already $639 device plus over $100 in cases and screen protectors isn't that significant.
