Ah thanks! She's my photo on everything - more important than any lump of aluminium :)

thanks. nom.

Well technically bio-neural information processing paralelism in sentience is superior to binary processing of computers, true.

But then again can your pupper do 1000 algebra equations in a nanosecond like a Mac can?

The "Don't Buy" status stuff they use on this website is crap, it's just a time metric.
Exactly. The sites are only useful if you can afford to drop $3,000 a year on a new MacBook Pro (or $1,000 for iPhone/iPad).

It obviously can't predict future price increases or product discontinuations. But I agree the accuracy is sometimes questionable simply using the time metric, because there are other factors that affect how current the hardware is. For example, the 5K iMac is still using the latest Skylake chips, yet has been at Don't Buy for a while now.

I don't think so, but my mac can't retrieve a ball from under the tv unit so 1-1

If you buy one every year why would you need to look at the buy guide? They would just watch the keynote.

Isnt it the opposite? People who buy once every 2-5 years and want to get the most out of their purchase?

lol

Fair point. She's a late-2014 too and can't receive any further pupdates.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. It really should be a guide for those within a typical upgrade window and not pander to those who just need the latest "thing" and have money to burn.

If you're serious about music production then that won't be enough for Logic

Lol... good point! Sorry, I think my original thought came out backwards

It's just sad the price jumps when other tech is getting cheaper, MacBooks continue to rise. I buy (and re-sell old iPhone) each year to have the newest model, but even after 2 to 5 years can't justify upgrading MacBook at the new cost.

I know, I know- "supply & demand", Apple continues to bring in the money.

I would disagree. I've done this for over 15 years and spent 4 years in University studying it.

Logic is coping fine for how I use it.

I have no clue how someone whos been doing it for this long can be fine with only 8gb ram and 256 ssd

Do you make music or are you an audio engineer?

Without wanting to sound like a dick - I could record something on my tascam cassette 4 track that is better than what a lot of people record on their top spec macs. Like, anyone (with the money) can buy a £1000 camera but it doesn't mean they will take a good photo.

I focus on the songwriting and this is a stable machine that has worked just fine in the 6 weeks I've used it (every single day)

So you mainly use it for recording? I guess that might be okay then. 8 gb is gonna struggle when using a lot of audio samples and AUs. But if your an artist/songwriter that should be fine

Also, link to your music?

Yeah, just recording and it's all for my own benefit rather than something that I have "plans" for so nothing online yet - maybe if I hit on something a bit different. Certainly not recording the London Symphony Orchestra or anything here!

Literally just ordered the 2015 rMBP right away after hearing the announcement. Price raised, hardware features reduced, no more magsafe, or glowing apple. I am done with that Apple non sense ****. I wonder if they are going to stop selling the 2015 versions though

Have they really ditched the glowing apple? Bloody hell. That's genuinely baffling. It's iconic.
