i dont have the DVD and as mentioned i dont even use firewire no point when USB is faster the DVD was borrowed and its costs more than Windows 7 to get a copy!!!!

USB 2 has a faster thericical speed. But FireWire 400 has a faster real world speed. USB 2 tops out at about 35 megabytes per second. FireWire 400 is about 45 megabytes per second with lower latency. And don't forget if the USB host is running low on free CPU cycles, USB speeds suffer because USB is CPU dependent, unlike FireWire whose chipset doesn't need CPU cycles. That's why FireWire is what provides Target Disc Mode.

short OF pirating its next to impossible to find a Leopard DVD that is cheaper than a Intel Mac Pirating tho illegal is just so frickin much easier!

I'm pretty sure that it is against the forum rules to discuss pirating on this forum.

And no, it's not impossible to find a Leopard DVD. I've seen plenty on eBay, you just have to keep on the lookout. If you look at the right auctions, some sellers include retail Leopard DVD's with used Macs. In that case, if you win the auction, you can just sell the Mac and then keep the DVD. I know several people who have done this. If you don't want that hassle, then there are plenty of Leopard DVD's available if you are willing to pay the price.

This is true. Six to seven years ago when I started using Macs, I thought the same thing... that firewire has no purpose and USB is better. Today, I have no idea what I would do without firewire ports on my Mac's. It makes transferring data a lot easier, its reliable and target disk mode is an awesome feature to use. If you do any video editing, firewire transfer is almost a must when you are transferring data from a camera to your Mac. People have SD cards now-a-days and HDD cameras, but is very difficult to use a mini-DV (tape) camera with a Mac via USB connection (if not impossible, I don't even think iMovie or Final Cut would accept the connection).

Wait I've always been told USB is not bootable with PPC, thus the reason I spent extra on a FireWire IceCube backup HDD for my G5.

You were told correctly. They can't NATIVELY boot from USB by selecting them in the startup disk chooser or by holding option at boot. The only way to boot compatible PPC macs from USB is by altering the boot order in Open Firmware.

Yaaa! Score one more for our side :D
That is false information. He did not "simply hold option at bootup".

Sorry, I do not read ignorant posts.

I reported his flagrant posts yesterday, but they are still here
They are factual information, thats why.

He proved nothing since we all experience that booting from USB works.
That is false information.

untrue you cannot set it as a startup disk within OS X but holding the Option key you CAN boot USB drives just fine i used a USB HDD to install Leopard on my eMac
That is false information. Open Firmware must be changed, as was proven in post#26

on boot hold down 'command & D' (I think please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Command C actually.

Command C actually.

Now that I'm on your ignore list, I guess I can post true things without prosecution. Oh and booting from a cd is command C. It's just C. And quite honestly arguing with you is like arguing with someone who is extremely sure of their religious faith.

How do you put someone on your ignore list?

Just plain C now that I think about it.

Sorry, I don't read posts from ignorant people.

Yes thank you for the delayed correction. It has been pointed out a few times already.

These posts aren't for your reading. They are for the reading of more articulate people. Thank you for filtering yourself out of them. Honestly, I think you've done more harm than good. Every knowledgeable forum poster, as you have claimed to be, knows that you never tell the person or persons that is on your block list, that they are on your block list. For all you know, I could be insulting you right now. This post alone is likely driving you mad wondering what I posted in response to your post.

Careful now Leo, it's posts like this that got you banned from the last forum you posted in.

hey i never said i was pirating anything nor did i encurage it spite the fact that its just part of life and people look at it as one simple thing but i will not say what said thing is because i dont know if itll cause problems

I'm in a rush so I haven't read the rest of this thread; if you want, I have an unused PM G5 lying around with a copy of Leopard on which I could mail you the HDD from for you to clone. Alternatively you could check out this - works fine for most people, but tread carefully regarding legal and privacy issues.
