You're saying I'm wrong when I said exactly what you are saying (except the global bit) in your post??

You said the discounted AppleCare was not available in stores - it is, I know this because I got it when I bought my MacBook last year.

  • The offer is ONLY available in the UK.
  • The offer is ONLY available from http://apple.procureweb.ac.uk and by telephoning the number listed on that website.
  • Most UK Universities are eligible, and there are also a few colleges which are as well.
  • Apple has been offering the 3 year warranty to students for a while now. I remember buying the first Intel iMac and getting the deal.
  • The 3 year warranty is on top of the ~17% discount that you get from the store and it does not affect other offers such as the iPod/printer one.

What this means is that if you buy a Mac from http://apple.procureweb.ac.uk right now you will get:

WRONG, this offer IS INDEED AVAILABLE IN THE US. Many US Universities are licensed Apple resellers and have a VERY similar offer. It isnt called the HE Applecare it is just called your regular old Applecare and comes tacked on with your system at the time of purchase. There is no difference between the regular Applecare and the one you recieve.

US however is not very publicized and interestingly enough is NOT on Apple's website even if use your school's Apple store website. If you ask an Apple employee they wont even know what you are talking about either as they do not know about this. However again if you are a college student goto the IT shop and ask.

To my small knowledge I know University of Maryland at Baltimore County and College Park sell their Apple computers like this with 3 year warranty already tacked on it.
