As the title reads, I picked up an iPhone XR (64gb) today. Could have picked up the X (new/64gb) for the same price.

Should have I gone for the X instead of the XR or did I make the correct choice or is the X a better iPhone model than the XR currently right now?

The X is a better buy in my book. The XR screen resolution is something that is disqualifying to me. And would have been a couple of years ago.

tomorrow i'll have had my XR for a week coming from an SE. I wonder myself if I made a mistake over getting an X sometimes, mostly regarding the size. Personally i think the X size would be more comfortable for me but I'm trying to give the XR some time to get used to a larger phone.

I don't really understand the reasoning for making the XR the size it is considering it's resolution. A device like the XR in the size of the X would have been much more appealing IMHO and it would have bumped up the PPI in doing so. They could have made it a little smaller even like the same physical size as the iphone 7/8 and i think that would be great....maybe that's what the SE2 will bring if it comes?

i see the XR as the stepping stone phone into the new non-button interface for the people currently using iphone 6s/7/8 but who are reluctant to carry around a $1k phone.

to these people a non 1080p screen isn't going to matter as much as the size and feel of a larger phone so why not make the XR smaller?

to me the new aspect ratio is more noticeable than the non-1080 resolution. I have this nice looking larger display on the XR and video has to have black bars that resemble the older style home button designs or you have to watch cut off video if you want to play full screen! That would be the same on the X as well so it wouldn't be a point for either phone when comparing.

Now that the XR has long press notification actions, I'm sold. I was waiting to see if it would work as well as Force Touch and it does. I say keep the XR, use it and love it.

I have the X and am happy with it over the XR because it looks like the XS so it just looks like the most premium iPhone.

And of course, OLED, better camera I think.

Wish it had 4GB RAM though

i always use a case, so the difference is negligent for me. however, i've heard the xr extra thickness is due to the larger battery for better battery life.

I find the xr screen lags for animation. I've tried every xr display model that I come across and every one of them feels just a tad sluggish even though it isn't. For example opening and closing apps, it feels like it's skipping frames during the animation which for me isnt pleasant to my eyes. Not sure if the higher resolution/OLED is negating the animation lag im talking about.

Was this at the Apple Store? I noticed the same thing with all of the XS, XR and Max store models. They must have something running in the background. Since they are technically demo models anything is possible. The lag I noticed on the in store XR is non existent on the one I picked up. Like night and day in certain cases. Weird. I noticed this last year too though with the 8 models. My 8+, even on iOS 11 ran better than those store demos.

Apple store, best buy just about any display models seem to have a slight animation lag.

I've never seen this on any display models in Best Buy, Target, or Walmart where I've recently played with all 3 new models.

I got the XR and played with it for less than a day and I had to take it back and upgraded to an XS instead since it was only $100 more than the X.

I didn't like the XR because it was just too big and heavy and the LCD screen didn't measure up. The price was right but I'd rather pay more and enjoy something than to settle and save a few bucks.

Very pleased with the XS. Perfect size and the OLED screen looks way better than LCD.

Still a good choice. And the $100.00 difference would have been worth the upgrade to the XS as well. If it was a $250.00 difference, the XR might be more compelling to not upgrade to the XS.
