Purpose of the hideous line at the bottom

Wondering if the line at the bottom of the iPhone x screen serves any purpose?

Yeah, I think it does. So lots of daft people out there would know there is a function attached to that, to go home. To swipe up - as it indicates on it and go home. If it wasn't there, people (probably the same people complaining now) would complain about the lack of it. I think Apple will remove it in the future versions of iOS (just like slide to unlock) but not until people are very familiar with the gesture.

Maybe it’ll take a week or two to be familiar with all the gestures. Wish there was an option to turn it off.

The simple solution is to offer an option to turn it off, however I doubt Apple will do this. Maybe they’ll surprise me.

It serves no purpose for me, I’d disable it in a heartbeat.
