Does using third party apps for email cause more battery drain than default mail app?
Been using EMAIL app since yesterday so it's too early to tell but I'm loving this app and push is now working on all my email accounts. Already deleted apple's mail app.
Thanks. I'll have to keep an eye on my battery usage then. It is a great mail app though.I believe it does because it keeps that constant connection. A third party app will update if you read, send or delete messages without launching the app, unlike Mail which only updates that if the app itself is open. Thats why I havent started using one yet.

It's called EMAIL. Recommended by a user earlier in this thread.Which one are you using?
that link says nothing about not maintaining a connection.
the reason your mail app doesn't make changes is because it doesn't support imap-idle otherwise it would.
in order for the mail app to even know mail has arrived it needs to have a persistent connection which then triggers a local notification
You are clearly mistaking 3rd party push notifications with iCloud push.
The phone maintains 2 connections, 1 to the APNS server (which handles push notifications for 3rd party apps) and another to the iCloud servers which supports push for its own services (including mail)

this link is very appropriate for u
and yes turning off iCloud push in total will save u about 20% battery

Wow, thanks for being a Jerk. "This link is very approbate for you". Thats is 100% uncalled for. It is known that Fetch uses more power than Push because it is connecting to the server to check for messages even if no messages are available. Your 20% battery claim is 100% absurd and you cannot prove it. So please don't insult and spread misinformation. I've been working with Tier 2 support for over 2 weeks now and THEY have told me it does not maintain a constant connection, unlike Mac which is not suffering from these Push issues.
Many of us were paying subscribers to MobileMe which worked well for email. We bought our Apple email addresses and are using them for business for quite some time. Then iCloud came along and destroyed the quality for a while....then it worked for a while....and now it failed...for me.Uhh yes. Apple is in no rush. You keep missing important emails? WHY in the world are using iCloud for ANYTHING important?!? They have NEVER been reliable.
because it supports imap-idle

["Unbelievably often, especially with Exchange push email, it’s as if the phone gets stuck in a loop checking for email constantly."
Yes because Tier 2 support fixes server issues? Come on now. Engineers and software team works on the issues. Tier 2 only relays the messages in between.
yup tier 2 does just that. u are right. but its those same message carriers that u believed that told u push doesn't drain battery... LOL
do u honestly think 2 weeks later, apple can't fix a server issue?!?
You are pulling 20% out of think air.
Now I am done..
Yes! This push email failure is an ongoing issue since 2011/2012.yup tier 2 does just that. u are right. but its those same message carriers that u believed that told u push doesn't drain battery... LOL

Correction: in my case, it's an ongoing issue. I had this failure in 2011/2012, created a ticket.......etc. My account was in troubleshooting mode since then! The issue cleared up for a few years, reappeared, the cleared up. And now..ITS BAAAAACK! 🙂No its not. This is the first time it has happened to me in 10+ years. So therefore its not an on-going issue. If it was an on-going issue you would see a hell of a lot more threads than 1 or 2 around here. And again, this effects other things than just mail. This is an entirely different issue.
The 2011-2012 issues were due to MoblieMe to iCloud transition.

That's why I said earlier Apple couldn't figure this out in 5 plus years...ongoing!
BUT that's my account/story.
Yes.....Yes, but that issue 4-5 years ago. Did it impact anything besides Mail, or was it only Mail? If it was only Mail than this issue is different.
now THAT's a positive reply. Hopefully they can fix the problem now that they KNOW its a problemYour battery claim is absurd and you know it. I get 12 hours of usage and 30 hours of standby on my device. You are telling me if I turn Push off I will get 15 hours and 36 hours. Thats NOT happening. You are pulling 20% out of thin air.
Now I am done..
[doublepost=1477411420][/doublepost]To everyone else. Tier 2 sent me an email today and said that they are now receiving a huge influx of tickets about this issue. Engineers are "aware" of this issue and looking for the root cause. Because the issue isn't occurring 100% of the time its taking them more time.
Yes.....
Mail push fail
Contacts double entry, wouldn't push entries....
Calendar didn't sync/push all items
My main complaint was email......email is life......b4 iMessage came along.
now THAT's a positive reply. Hopefully they can fix the problem now that they KNOW its a problem
So it was entirely iCloud related. Probably because of the MobileMe->iCloud Transition issues. This is causing issues with voicemail, a non-iCloud product. I'm not saying your wrong, I just think this time is different.

Who's your carrier? I assume that's where notifications would be sent from (to APN).
Agreed. Who knows how long, but she has been reaching out to me daily with updates. First time Tier 2 has actually consistently followed up with me.
