IM+ seems to have it enabled as well

edit: seems to push a notification to your email when you have an email. if i remember beejive already did that

IM+ says it will be available shortly after 3.0 release. The current version supports push via email, which has been available for a while.

Gmail DOES actually support push, but only via the "IMAP IDLE" protocol, which the iPhone doesn't support. If you are running Mail.app for OS X v 3.0 (which does support this protocol), Gmail is delivered via push.

Holy crap that is fast. I hope it stays that way.

I don't think it will, you have about 5% or less of iPhone owners that have 3.0 right now so the servers are free from traffic, wait till everone get 3.0 and clogs up the servers and see how fast it is then.

Developers and torrenters account for faaar less than even 1% of iPhone owners.

so what does this bode for push coming to gmail for the iPhone, can apple give an update to 3.0 in the future to support the feature gmail do, or will gmail update their servers to support push to the iPhone?

Gmail pushes contacts + calendar via ActiveSync (exchange, really), which the iPhone supports, so it's not implausible that they might enable ActiveSync for mail too. We'll see. I'm no expert with Exchange, but I think having all three supported simultaneously would make Gmail / Google Apps effectively a free Exchange solution, with event invites, etc.

I keep getting "Connect to iTunes to use push notifications" when I enter the game with Notifications set to On. Happening every time. I already rebooted, synced with iTunes, done everything...

It seems to be related to the iPhone not being activated through the original means :p

I'm having the same problem!!!

This is somewhat related. Touchgrind was just updated and it includes the ability to play music from your iPod inside the game. This is a 3.0-specific feature too so it seems apps are starting to get updated early.

OK, this question was asked literally like 5 times in this thread and no one has answered it, but how the hell do you challenge someone in TTR 2????

I know we were promised push last year when the 3G came out, but thinking about it now, I think it will be a huge step forward for the iphone.

Not as big as bringing the app store itself, but a pretty big next step in improving the overall functionality and usability of the phone and the apps with the phone.

I am really interested to see what uses the developers put this to, to start with, and what good ideas develop over time.

Push notifications don't affect push email at all. The iPhone has pretty much always had push email for email servers that support it. Gmail supports push email, but only for certain devices (the iPhone, for whatever reason, isn't one of them). Push email and Push Notifications are two very different things.

That doesn't make sense. As long as they maintain server farms large enough to handle the load, the speed will be fine. Sure they might not do that, or might fall behind at times, but to magically assume because more people will use it, it is guaranteed to be slow is simply not how things work.

2g

Youtube and Push Notifications aren't working on 2G Hacktivated iPhones.

Devteam is working on the the YouTube issue.
Does anyone know how to get those push notifications working?!

I wrote a blogpost about the Push Notifications problem for users with a hacktivated 2G iPhone. http://bit.ly/tI31g
