One of the new features in this version of our forum software is support for Web Push Notifications. Unfortunately, Apple does not support this particular protocol in Safari or iOS. If you are using Chrome or even Android, you should be able to enable push.

It should prompt you... and you can manually turn it off and on here:

I know push notifications are supported on Safari for Mac, and have been since OS X Mavericks. However, the button is grayed out with "Push notifications not supported".

Edit: It looks like Safari uses its own API for push notifications. Too bad.

I think what arn is describing there is something different than the Safari Push notifications you are talking about, which can be enabled at the link above.

I'm on Linux with Firefox and I've been auto-prompted to enable if I want it, so, just confirming it does work.

It should look like that. Try clearing MR from the Safari settings. Go to the Safari Preferences menu then Websites and remove/delete MacRumors. Then go to https://www.macrumors.com/push/ to reenable them.

That should get the push notifications working again. Please let me know if it doesn't.

I just tried this and get no response when I click the "Subscribe/Unsubscribe " button.
Now what?

Early in the morning last Saturday, my Catalina hard drive failed catastrophically. Up until then, I used to have Push Notifications from this site. After restoring from a backup, I once again have a 99% functional Catalina (there were some issues in the restore process), but Push Notifications are gone. Now it seems my browser (Safari, no less) is, all of a sudden, incompatible with Push Notifications, which is utter nonsense. Is there a reasonable solution?

Have you tried resetting them? See my post above.

Yes, I have. As a matter of fact, I've just done it again. No effect, as far as I can see. I recall there were a couple of files (possibly plists, I'm not sure) that controlled the entire notification pushing functionality. Do any of you know which those files might be? I think they could be edited using TextEdit or a similar app.

Hi. Did you ever solve this? I have a similar problem.

Notifications were working perfectly on Big Sur for me but I have done a clean install of 11.1 this week, enabled notifications at

https://www.macrumors.com/push/

but am not receiving any notifications from MacRumours. Notifications from other sites are working fine.

I have deleted all MacRumours cache, cookies etc and removed MacRumours from Safari > Preferences > Websites > Notifications and then re-subscribed at https://www.macrumors.com/push/ but still nothing coming through? Definitely seems to be an issue when either restoring or with clean installs.

Thanks

I haven't received push notifications since I installed Big Sur.
I've done all of the above "fixes" to no avail.
Any working "fix" would be appreciated.

Interesting. In Safari it appears Push Notifications are not supported as it is saying I need a supported device on Big Sur.

Hi. I think your screenshot is referring to notifications on the Forums, which is not supported in Safari? I am referring to notifications from the main MacRumours site
https://www.macrumors.com/push/
which I have enabled (see screenshot) and were working until I did a clean install of Big Sur

I know it isn’t the same but, I use an app called “Watch Feeds” that sends a MacRumors” RSS feed notification to my watch as soon as a new article is published on MR. I can view the article on the watch. It might be of help to those with a watch not able to get MR notifications.

I haven’t gotten any notifications on my Mac mini with Big Sur (and Safari) as well. I just signed up again for push and it said I was subscribed. Time will tell.

After going through the set up process once again for push notifications (and getting an on screen confirmation it was done) I haven’t received any push notifications.
Exactly the same as my experience. Looks like MacRumours notifications are definitely broken with Big Sur

Same, no fix yet?

Edit: Running 11.2.2, tried both Safari 14.0.3 and Firefox 86, neither show the red button to sub / unsub.

After I did absolutely nothing, the MF notifications suddenly returned after the latest update.
