well, 2.1 still seems pretty buggy to me. quite a few apps and safari had crashed on me. hopefully 2.2 will include more fixes. the last thing i want is my iphone crashing due to push without me doing anything... imagine trying to make a needed phone call and you can't even do so because some app is crashing your iphone? that would suck.

wasn't the apple TV delayed too?

They only delayed Mac OSX 10.5. And I wouldn't even call it a delay. It's not like you pre-order it( but maybe you did) and they were like it's going to be released in November. The Sdk wasn't late they said late in the month and we got it early the next month( I think March 6). See this is the problem, we all read these Rumor sites and can't keep rumors from facts straight. Even though it might be true that they said September( even though it still September), and you read this email some guy got( which we have no proof is real) and get mad. I'm just tired of reading these forums and having to read all of the complaints, when I want to see what people have to say and what they think apple will bring( product wise).

Just for fun, I sent a small e-mail to sjobs inquiring if Push Notifications were still scheduled for September, and I got this back:

does anyone else find it hard to believe that Steve Jobs, running one of the largest companies in America, sits there and answers customer service emails from his iphone? His phone must be vibrating 24/7!! But if he is, then i now know why the push update is "running a bit late". Who has the time to run a company when you are replying to emails from pfish and such.

Go back and read Post #14.

If it was released on March 6th, it was 6 days (almost) a week late.

Lateness

Not that anyone cares, but I have always admired Apple for it's lateness. To me it says that they are more concerned with getting a high quality product to us than they are with just giving us whatever they have by the time they said they would. Besides, Apple is pretty good about apologizing when things get delayed, and making up for mistakes unlike some other electronics manufacturers I can think of -*coughsony -- *coughrosoft.

From what I hear, he has been known to reply personally to an email from time to time. Plus, wasn't he just really sick/treated for cancer or something? Maybe he's had a little down time and that's why we're seeing this little rash of personal email replies from Steve. And it's definitely not one of the largest companies in America. They dedicate a lot of their budget to advertising, and they invented the iPod.

According to Neilson Mobile the average person is sending more text messages than they are making phone calls. They say that Qtr 2, 2008 the average person made 204 calls vs 357 texts messages. So you can definitely hear the groan of iphone users who are waiting for push notification instant messaging. This will be a huge load on the notification servers at Apple and they are probably gearing up for this.

I really want push notification. It was in fact the only reason I was excited for 2.1.

Text messages already work with background notification. Yeah, you're so tech-smart.

The object of the "push notification servers" is to make other applications be able to give you notifications much like the SMS app does.
