I'm thinking of finally moving up to the latest gen TC as we now have a couple of new MacBooks with ac wi-fi. I have a 1st gen TC that is working just fine. I've upgraded it twice, and it now has a Seagate 6TB drive in it - see my post on this upgrade here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...for-time-capsule.1059249/page-7#post-20523047

My plan is to buy a (less expensive) latest gen 2TB TC and putting the 6TB drive from my old TC into it. Has anyone done a TC-to-TC drive swap and if so will the new TC recognize the old TC's drive, or will the old TC drive need to be reformatted ("repaired") by the new TC?

If possible I'd like to be able to keep the old TM backups on the 6TB drive (five machines back up to it) and simply just move it to the new TC.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Success! worked like a charm. See this thread for more: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/8tb-time-capsule-upgrade.1852486/#post-21886338
