I agree wholeheartedly, save that the other reason to upgrade is the potential for better battery life. Which is the main reason I chose to upgrade.

This update did not promise better battery life, but a more consistent battery meter. As I understand it, the issue being addressed was the one of the battery appearing to discharge faster during certain portions of the battery cycle. It had nothing to do with setting an accurate discharged (that is determined by hardware anyway, and is based on the current voltage), but with accurately predicting remaining battery throughout the discharge cycle.

well my pwnage tool doesnt even load so I guess im stuck... just spins when trying to locate firmware.

This bug hit me several times, and it was really annoying. The battery would precipitously and inexplicably drop from 80% to 20% and then continue to discharge quickly until I couldn't turn the phone on. This resulted, on 3 separate occasions, in me going without a phone for a day. Really annoying and I'm glad they fixed it 3.1.3 (and even more glad the dev team figured out a way for me to JB my 3GS from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3)

You should be able safely to upgrade to 3.1.2 using a custom firmware created with PwnageTool 3.1.4. That would be my recommendation for someone in your situation. Avoid 3.1.3, though.

ohhh, so I point quickpwn towards official 3.1.2 firmware and it makes it a custom one. It's been a while since I had to go through this. Can't afford to lose my unlock (ugh).

No! Don't use QuickPwn. No idea where you got that from. QuickPwn is extremely outdated and will not work with your phone. You need to use PwnageTool 3.1.4. It is currently available only for Mac, but you can get custom firmware files made by others...

i have a question..
I updated to 3.1.3 thru itunes...
Then I tried using sn0wbreeze to downgrade to 3.1.2 but failed..
Supposedly I should have Cydia installed..
But after following all the instructions on the website..
I restored with 3.1.3 again with only the original apps..
No cydia or any sight of jailbroken apps like cydia or rock or anything..

I posted a thread here but help given so far..

http://www.hackint0sh.org/f230/110761.htm

Anybody facing same prob as me and manage to resolve this ?

When I try using sn0wbreeze.. in the midst of it.. they mentioned some error... Its on my thread mentioned above..

Thanks for any helps..!

1) What model of phone do you have? If a 3GS, what are the first 5 digits of your serial number?

2) Do not use SnowBreeze for anything.

3) If you restored to the official 3.1.3 firmware, of course you have no jailbroken apps. Restoring to official firmware removes your jailbreak.

1. 3GS / 3.1.3(7E18)
2. that's my only hope I known of
3. I dun mean that. I mean during installation of sn0wbreeze.. it mentioned
"installing cydia" but after whole process, no Cydia is found..
Of course I know un-jailbroken restored iPhone can't have any cracked apps.

Hope there's solution.. been looking for 3 days...

The answer to all your questions is in the first post of this thread, in the 3GS section. Whether you can do anything depends entirely on whether you have your SHSH saved. If you do, then you can downgrade to 3.1.2 and unlock; if you do not, then you are stuck at 3.1.3. Either way you cannot currently unlock.

Snowbreeze cannot jailbreak a 3GS already on 3.1.3 official, whatever you've read. It can only allow you to upgrade from 3.1.2 jailbroken to 3.1.3 jailbroken. Unless you can downgrade to 3.1.2, you're stuck.

Old bootrom?
Can someone help walk me through if this is possible on my 3GS firmware 3.1.3?
See I tried blackrain, but my phone got caught in between recovery or DFU whatever, so I had to upgrade to the damn 3.1.3 on iTunes.

Is this new JB for me? I don't get the old bootrom thing. Thx guys.

If your phone has never been jailbroken, it will not be possible for you to downgrade. 3GS phones on 3.1.3 cannot be jailbroken at this time. You will have to wait and hope.

does this work?

Hello...new to jailbreaking and am unclear about this. Have been reading through the forums, and everyone seems to say that a previously un-jb'd 3GS, 3.13, 05.12.01 cannot be jb'd. However, this guide: http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5432 seems to say it can be. What am I missing that this guide doesn't tell me? I'm not going to make the leap until I know for certain...

Also...second question...if I successfully jailbreak, will my previous apps/data still be there, or will I need to start over?

thanks

Its not telling you that you cannot JB a 3Gs that is already updated to stock 3.1.3(something you seem to know). This guide tells you how to update to a Pwned 3.1.3 FW from 3.1.2, but does not make that clear.

I see...that is definitely NOT clear from the instructions!

Some of the comments seem to claim that if the serial # 4th and 5th digits are less than 45, then it's possible. Mine are 35, model starts with MB...

So...is it 100%, no matter what model, what serial number, which way the planets are aligned, etc...if you haven't jailbroken before, you absolutely cannot do it now on a 3GS running 3.1.3?

I am deciding which iPad I want; if I can jailbreak and then tether, I'll get the wifi only model.

This is guessing at the probability of the new bootrom (meaning you have to boot your Jailbroken phone from a computer). Having a week 35 means you probably do not have the new bootrom. Only old bootroms can use Pwnage to JB.
'MB' or 'MC' serials don't factor into the JB with 3Gs'

No you cannot.

Ok so I had 3.1.2 jailbroken and my shsh are on file with cydia. I had to restore my iPhone because my home button broke and brought it to the apple store. But now I have 3.1.3 installed. My 4th and 5th # on my serial number are 23. Can I jailbreak again on 3.1.3 with the new Pwnage tool? I don't care about unlocking right now. And I have a MC model number
