I've got to say, it's somewhat amusing reading the righteous outrage over the OP's audacity to desire 8gb of memory. I imagine if I searched back a few years on this site, I'd see similar voices trying to browbeat a poster into submission for asking about 4gb of memory when "everyone knows 1gb is more than enough for almost everything." You guys crack me up.

It's $80 to test if this is going to work, do I really need to be the first guinea pig outside of Apple to test this? I mean I have to sell off a few machines to buy a new one! It's an arm and leg for me but if you have a new MBP, the worst you'd be out is 15% of $80 ($12) and return shipping ($5).

Wow...I cant see why you would ever want to waste money on 8GB RAM. If you really want 8GB go buy a Desktop. What would you ever need 8GB for anyways? I run PhotoShop and Logic Pro all the time with a bunch of Apps and I dont even use 1/2 of my 4GB.
I could see use for 8GB of memory.
But... according to Dell:
"Dual Channel DDR2 Memory
Available DIMM Slots:
Two Memory slots offering up to 8GB6...........
6 Laptops configured with 4GB of memory - The total amount of available memory will be less than 4GB. The amount less depends on the actual system configuration."
And why, oh Dell, are there DIMM slots in a Laptop? Something doesn't add up... is it using a desktop northbridge or something? I just don't get it.
