I'm pretty sure ark.intel.com used to show a "last date to order" and "last delivery date" for this processor, which I think were 11/14 and 02/15. But this information has been removed so I maybe the processor life has been extended.

Is this because the new Mac Mini's perform so poorly they actually are slower than the generation prior to them?

Well, Apple said, lets roll out some even more cost effective units with high margin?

Nuts.
Apple needs to offer better CPU and graphics performance. This utilitarian bunk designs are as if the Macintosh line of computers is a hobby. Terrible

They need to offer faster product updates and to fix this crap.

Well, then Intel should release something else than nothing for an eternity then.

It's out of stock now. I hope Apple sees how popular the quad-core mini is and release the 2015 model we all want.

I was gonna pick up a 2014 model next month but now I might wait for Sept./Oct.

clearly an error, we all know apple would never ship with an old OS on purpose

Clearly an error, but it's actually a better machine in a lot of ways than the current model (particularly when it comes to upgrades). I'd opt for it over the present one if it was actually in stock.

Intel's CPU design required them to choose between all dual-core/all quad-core. Apple opted with dual-core for Haswell.

Intel Skylake will fix this requirment between quad/dual costume socket design.

So I assume this quad-core mac mini will be in the lineup until 2016

Intel force no one, just that they have difference interface, Apple decided to use single cpu interface/ single motherboard, Apple could have chosen all quad core for all mac mini models.

So far not on the German store. But office hours are just about to start ...

That's what I said it required them to choose between dual-core/quad-core.

You'll likely be waiting for skylake

On single core 32-bit processing. Multi-core 64-bit and the 2012 SMOKES the new stuff.

2014 model has better GPU as well, not to mention PCIe SSD & dual thunderbolt.

Aside from four cores, the new minis are much better.

as others already mentioned, modern apps that handle multi core run faster on the 2012 i7-quad vs the 2014(any model).
The factor is at least twice as fast. Hence the shame that the quad core is gone.

aside? the quad core is huge for many users. you also forgot that you can upgrade you own RAM to 16GB and put two drives of your choice in the 2012 including making your own fusion drive. Or running two SSD's with RAID-1 for blazing fast speeds.
The 2014 has soldered RAM and only one drive bay.

it was

caused by the blizzard on the east cost.

(now the fusion-drive Yosemite Mini is there)

hot diddly dog...all those idiots on ebay trynna profit off poor late to game mac mini users can shove it

Meh... this "idiot" sold a 2012 Quad Core Mini for $1000 on eBay when Apple killed the quad-core option. I had purchased it on MacRumors Marketplace for $600 6 months prior.

Obviously an error, as it was flagged as "NEW", which is not.

If it was put on purpose, it should be flagged as "BETTER", which is. ;)

Why not current quad-core Mac mini model? No Intel microprocessor available for that? In such a case, when are expected new suitable microprocessors? Thanks.

Let's hope they bring it back with a quad-core broadwell in the future. There are people that use it as a server still.

Its Back to the Future all over again! The Flux Capicator disrupted the space-time continum and made this old, old machine reappear again!

Seriously though.....probably a mistake on Apple's wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow morning, Apple's PR team announces the error in their ways.

TL;DR: Nothing new, move on....

Or they could have designed two motherboards, presumably. I suspect they've just been wrong-footed by Intel's slow processor releases. If it's critical, they might design an interim quad-core. It's possible that someone was prepping for that and accidentally put up the old quad-core. But a pure mistake seems more likely to me!

I don't understand this obsession with the 2012 model , the gpu is outdated , the new model has much faster pcie - hardware and most normal software doesn't even use multi cores anyway , not more than 2 certainly.

Well then you haven't used modern software.
