Suppose you best get yourself a 2009 model, that has got plenty of processing power for safari and mail.

Bet apple will continue this line going further back to the past with releasing a single core model next year. Hence why not, those single core processor will be superb. Those will be a lot cheaper than a decent processor and lots of users will never notice the difference !

no, it will be a Mini with an ARM cpu. that's what i think is apple's end game with these low-end devices. now that the performance of ARM cpus is getting close to desktop performance, they want to test the waters to see how accepting people are of machines with less-than-stellar performance.

Could you give me a brief list ?

I know for a fact photoshop ( maybe some filters do ) , the os and most games don't require multi cores over 2 , so what apart from handbrake needs all these cores that you're all missing so much in the 2014 model ?

i loooooooooooooove this argument, it makes me laugh every time. its like saying nobody *really* needs to go more than 55mph so we should just stop making cars that go faster than that. stop implying that your own limited use case precludes all others' needs or desires for something that gives them more bang for the buck.
