for all i care, other tablets could be hexacore and come with freehandjobs. I'd still prefer the ipad

hence the reason why more people are buying more Android devices over the past 2 years and iPhones have been out at least 2x as long?

While collectively there are more options for Android devices over iStuff, the point is, people are chosing those devices and not iStuff.

Interesting article about why Verizon now has the iPhone. Bold italics mine.

Unlike popular comparisons of global device activation numbers, mobile web "market share" and mobile advertising analytics, all of which can gerrymander markets that either include or exclude iPods and iPads and other devices, or group third world cheap devices into the same pool as high end smartphones, the report's comparison of AT&T and Verizon is one of the clearest looks yet at how iPhone sales compare to Android-based smartphones in similar circumstances.

Strike three, the site states, is that Android is simply not competitive with Apple's iPhone. "In an apples-to-apples comparison," the report states, "in Q3 the iPhone at AT&T outsold Android at Verizon (remember, same addressable market) by a factor of 2.5. This is with a variety of devices and vendors thrown in the market. We hardly ever get to see this finely grained a comparison when looking at platforms.
"

The report added, "whether it’s due to brand, visibility or performance and in spite of 'antennagate' the iPhone is cleaning up."

Apple came out first with a mostly crippled tablet,

That no one else had been able to make successfully.

I'm sorry but fanboyism aside.. facts are facts.

So true. When Android and iOS go head to head, Android loses.

My biggest question about a quad core tablet would be battery life. With that much power, it probably wouldn't have a long battery life or the battery would have to be HUGE. Also, how much heat would a quad core processor generate in a tablet sized device?

Posts like this make me lol. When are these idiots going to learn that specs >< user experience, AND that a refined, integrated user experience >>>> 'better' specs all day every day every time.

Sheesh. Mods can we outright ban stupidity on the forum?

In Q3 that was the case but when you look at the Q4 numbers they tell a different story.

When android handsets out sold the iPhone 2:1.

The market is chaning much faster than I think anyone expected.

Indeed.

Apple is dropping in popularity in the UK.

Perhaps due to income levels and exchange rates, Americans feel the iPhone is reasonably priced over there, but in the UK it's too expensive for many normal people.

Also.

Was in the UK newspapers today also. Read by normal, non tech people.

Yooouuuu.... missed it!

The report you cite is based on global markets and includes a lot of cheap, low end phones that are not directly competitive with iPhone, but do run Android. That was what was interesting about the Asymco report, it compared the two platforms sales performance under similar conditions. It's why I included this little gem in my post:

Could be a simpler explanation. From your own article:

And, with over 800,000 deals currently giving away a smartphone for free, it’s easy to see how consumers are being lured away from the iPhone."

Free's a powerful selling point! Er, uh, give away point!?

Further, iPhones outlook is good.

...with just a couple of months until Apple is expected to give details of its next offering, it’s almost a dead cert that they will soon lead the way again in the race for smartphone dominance," Doku said.

hence the reason why more people are buying more Android devices over the past 2 years and iPhones have been out at least 2x as long? It's only a matter of time till the iPad (1+2) will suffer the same fate. Apple came out first with a mostly crippled tablet, using an existing OS (iOS) just just a larger touch screen (a larger iPhone w/no transmitter).

While collectively there are more options for Android devices over iStuff, the point is, people are chosing those devices and not iStuff.

I'm sorry but fanboyism aside.. facts are facts. The iOS offers a great experience, and the App store offers a rich environment of apps, 90% of which are useless. The hardware nor its design isn't innovative at all anymore. Apple is too focused on selling stuff in iTunes more than they are trying to be leaders. Mac Pro, MBP, MB, Final Cut Studio.. the list goes on.

Yeah Apple's stuff "works", but so does its competitors.. and their stuff is starting to work better. Apple needs to regroup.

Not so fast! The race is different! High end android cost more and lack apps and are not fully baked. Apple is not crippled by being on one carrier in us or other countries. Plus, it had one year head start and not standing still. If you were to count 7 in android tablets , then iPod touch should count as well. Motorola is sneaky because it released Xoom without flash and had people review it and got its battery rated 7 hours. Honeycomb is good but iOS is good too. Both will evolve. Android tablets are fragmented in size, os, and touch. So, will they tally android tablet sales based on os or all inclusive. Saw on Hsn and they were selling a 7 in resistive touch screen android 2.1 tablet for $149. The real race should be iPad vs Honeycomb. Any os below honeycomb is not supported by google. However, they are counting Galaxy tab sales. This tab is capacitive touch android 2.2. Htc flyer is 2.3 gingerbread that is not out yet.

Competition (android, web os,blackberry, windows) lack tablet based apps, cost more, shorter battery life, lack iTunes, and you can buy now. iPad gets time exclusive apps! It is almost like iPod race but not the iPhone race. It is also like window race except this time apple has more apps. Apple has way more Content! In 3 years, competition will be between iPad and android. In 6 years, iPad will rule the tablets by a factor by 3. Android will always be around but better than Zune is still around compared to iPod!

Assuming the data is accurate, we are going to dive into it but I will state up-front that without confirmation, the conclusions below should be taken with a grain of salt. All statements should be read with a preceding “if the data is accurate…”

They said upfront they could not confirm the data.
