Well, since the G4's like to play nice with each other and the fact that OS X is essentially BSD, there's no reason really to NOT imagine 4, 8, 16, 32 processor configurations. BSD can scale to some unholy number or processors. It's simply a cost factor. If they could make rack mountable multiprocessor servers, well that might make it more feasible in a server environment.

Now, whether or not Apple is actually developing these systems is another story altogether.

Just imagine a cluster of quad+ 1Ghz+ processor macs as a render farm!

EVERYBODY PLEASE LOOK HERE!!
I have read all the comments from you guys but when looking at the about window of my cpu monitor, it says 1.0 (v23), plus it is made 2001. Now if you look at the quicktime movie, at the about box it says 2.0 (v114) and made in 2002. This might answer the question to why the window is above the dock. Also the quicktimes in the background look perfectly normal and so does evreything else (apart from the cpu monitor of course). I might be wrong and i just haven't updated my versions lately but those are my two cents of thought.

Spymac movies

Have you guys noticed that of all the rumors sites, SpyMac is the only one that ever has movies of anything? None of the other sites ever have movies (to my knowledge). So then you can infer that the movies are fake, because if they weren't, why don't other sites have them?

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I'm thinking...

hey, eye, you may need a quad processor mac to keep up with your big time posting ;-)

now that you are close to 1000, all of us oldtimers will be here waiting for the day you reach that magical number

if i am not mistaken, motorola must have some yield problems in their production of g4s since they (apple) don't ofter BOTH a single and a dual g4 1 ghz model which would be way better for sales

if the yield was high enough for that, then a quad would make sense

how does this sound

low end 1 ghz g4
mid level dual 1 ghz
high end quad 1 ghz

i could see it happening later this summer but next month would be very good for sales

if we as mac users had a quad 1 ghz, even though the people in the know realize that it's not 4 ghz, it still would shup up the mhz/ghz myth race and people (consumers) will start looking at features before SPEED

Let me clarify something about the cpu monitor. I've even put in a picture (See attachment.) The standard window (the one on top of my picture, with the pretty background and blue bar thingy) stays behind the dock.

The floating window (the one on the bottom) stays on top of the dock.

Hopefully this will clarify some things. Of course, this picture may still be a complete fake. Especially since it came from spy-mac, and they're probably willing to put out everything they get to raise their creditability, and it isn't working. I can see how easy it would be to make a fake picture like that. Anyways, I just wanted to make some things clear.

oh, and sorry for the lo-res pic. i had to give it crappy quality so the file was small enough to upload.

Does somebody got this movie spymac talks about....?
I didN,t have the time to download it before they remove it...
So please, if you have it, just send it to samy@ssrnet.com...
I would appreciate!

ummm...

has anyone noticed those QT players fail to show a drop shadow? And they are layered so it would be easy to see how one drop shadow overlapped a QT window below?

there may be quads someday, but that's a freaking Pshop hack of a desktop screenshot with a bunch of QT players on layers... man. it's not even done well!!

still fake

That doesn't matter, I considered that but why then would one window be under the dock and the suspicious graph window be on top? It's easy to do in Quicktime and they did it. FAKE VIDEO!

to groucho

could it actually be that the vid is using an even older version?

In the Unix world v.23=2.3 and v114=1.14
BSD and Linux kernals as well as Gnome/KDE GUIs are labeled like this.

peace bro,

yes, but the date of creation goes from 2000-2001 on my imac, but in the video it goes from 2000-2002, so my point is that it has to be a newer version. also what i'm trying to say about the versions is that maybe in the new one, the cpu monitor is SUPPOSED to be ABOVE the dock, and maybe it's an OPTION or DEFAULT.
maybe i'm wrong but i just have this feeling that spymac has gotten better, plus they say that the video was sent to them, and the thread on the spymac forums shows another picture series. thus it seems that spymac wouldn't go ahead and fake a video (again). (let's just all forget about the iWalk thing and move on)

ok none of us are prepared to trust spymac (except groucho) but we have all speculated about multiprocessors beyond 2 and many of us run g4 clusters because we just cant wait. so i guess what im wondering is what are the implications of apple research into multiple g4s and the subsequent launch of a multiple g4 system mean for the eventual release of a g5?

The movies are all paused

This is a complete fake. If the movies were playing we'd see the pause button instead of the play button

Baaaaa!

Sheep, you're all sheep. I can't believe MacRumors even posted anything about SpyMac. After several fiascos in a row, how can you people even bother talking about anything they report.

Credible or fanciful rumors can be fun, sure, but SpyMac is so obviously doing it to 1) gather traffic to their pathetic site 2) make you look silly.

We're talkin' about the vid footage not the supid pic.
Read more careful before postin' ****!

Re: Daystar 4 processor Mac

The year: 1996. The machine: Daystar Genesis 800 with four 604e processors. The price: 12,000 USD. Time in production: less than a year. Long enough for some idiot at the retouching shop I worked at at the time to convince the general manager to buy one. It sucked. This spymac picture looks suspiciously like the old Daystar. SpyMac wouldn't get something wrong, would they? Actually, do they get anything right?

Hopefully a G4 OS X power multi would be great...the Daystar was a joke in the shop especially when it had more downtime than a Yugo and the PowerTower w/ one processor running at 750mhz ran rings around it repeatedly even in Photoshop. It was great listening to the guy who bought it attempt to put a good spin on it. Wow, that machine sucked.

Why does everyone seem to think that multi-multiprocessor machines are some unheard of dream? We had 4 processors in 1996. And why does anyone even believe a single thing that Spimac.com posts? They are unreliable liars.

The Machine is an IBM AIX Box, I'm not possiive as to which one but... it is. For the more than uninformed many IBM makes PowerPC boxes for the PowerPC Chips that run AIX, all of which made by IBM. Granted most of these that you will find are 601 and 604 CPUs , as the 603 was **** and the G3 was based on the 603. The movie I didn't see but saw the pictures and laughed instantly I reckognized it as an IBM workstaion from it's earlier line.

i Hav quadruple procesors too

http://homepage.mac.com/dschep/images/fake_quad.jpg

Not i did that with graphic converter(it's a G3 iMac)
by the wy spymac probably have photoshop or some **** like that.

Was wondering if I could get a copy of that desktop image you're using (cool colors)? And how did you get the Dock to be on the bottom left of the screen? Suppose that coulda been faked too though. :)

D'oh! correction eric_n_dfw

eric_n_dfw

You are right...the PowerTower I was thinking about was @300mhz or so (maybe 250 mhz) - I am so used to referring to cpu speeds at so much higher speeds nowadays that I inadvertantly doubled it...The Daystar had 4x200mhz processors at the time and the PowerTower running at @250-300mhz (with slightly more total ram) kicked its ass all the time...

good catch! My bad. The Daystar still sucked ass regardless. I would like to see Apple release many processored CPU's - spimac.com has no insight into the possible road ahead though...those hacks couldn't follow the sun in the sky if you gave them a telescope on the top of mount everest.

Was something seriously screwed with that Daystar?! At the time the 800 was out I remember it being touted untouchable by any publication. I hope the poor sap had the MP extensions properly loaded for Photoshop, and had enough RAM to feed the app.

Has SpyMac every been right about *anything*?

It's amazing how many posts the SpyMac crap generates. This is especially amazing since they've shown a consistent ability to create & post fake photos and movies of products.

Can anyone give me a single instance where SpyMac was right about *anything*?

Actually, if you consider how long they have been open, they are not doing too bad.

Many of their rumors can not be proven right or wrong (such as this quad stuff.)

But:
Right: Posted a couple of the Apple Slogans a head of time
Right: Pretty much nailed the release of the new PowerMacs - just a week off.
Right: Again, the 10.1.3 update - other sites confirmed that Spymac was right, but Apple had to postpone.
Right: Apple not releasing iMacs in Canada until the 18th. I just got off the phone with my dealer (I'm getting one ! Yay!) and he said that although he's had an ETA of "this week" for awhile, it seems like the day reported is going to hold out.

False: Have'nt kept track of this, but I'm sure they outnumber the right.
